Religious Extremist
- David (15th May 2021 - 17:18:20)
Did anyone else get approached today in the village by a tall man wearing a terrible tank top wanting to bless you?
Who is the religious nut, why is he wanting to bless people and why on earth would anyone wear a woolly tank top?

I know this is a little bit tongue in cheek, but he is a kind and well meaning man. Don’t mock him online, it isn’t kind.

I'm not religious but I know a bit about religious history and it's clear that if that intense Jewish guy called Jesus turned up in England today he'd be met with horror by most Christians. In fact this isn't really a Christian country anymore judging by most people's reaction to public displays of faith. PS tomorrow (Sunday) is one of the holiest days in both the Christian and Jewish calendars (for inter related reasons but I doubt if either if them would admit it) I guess that may have had something to do with the priests unrequited enthusiasm you witnessed, who is trampling on whose rights in Britain today, interesting paradox isn't it? Just food for thought!

If we are talking about Reverend Valentine then yes, he is a very decent person indeed. I'm surprised at some of the comments here given how one poster has preached about "hate speech" in the past. One could have just asked Valentine who he is, though, rather than mock and ridicule on anti-social media.

Valentine is possibly the kindest person I’ve ever met in my life, a true asset to Liphook

D-we finally agree on something. I'm an atheist but I know the Reverend is an especially kind , caring, intelligent man. I wouldn't mind him blessing me-there's a kindness about being blessed that transcends religion. James-your view is short-sighted. You pronounce on a lot of issues you don't know much about.I don't think he is forcing religion on anyone.

The Reverend in question is an ecumenical Christian who is trying to spread Christianity that way. He is not an extremist preaching any hate speech or wanting to kill anyone of a different religion. I suspect the original poster is not polite enough to just tolerate someone he or she does not understand, probably through ignorance.

Hello, Passfield Resident, good to hear from you again. I've been to many of Valentine's services at Bramshott, I find the atmosphere of old churches very calming and soothing. I think David should be very careful in his choice of words, "religious extremist" is not a phrase to be used lightly these days and could attract unwanted attention.

this thread begun with a local misunderstanding / ignorance and quickly deteriorated into an unpleasant national / global religion political ineffective rhetoric.
A growing number of us know our Moderator can cancel or withdraw unhelpful postings. Would this thread be 'dealt with'? Will this posting be added to the thread?

Afternoon Joe,
I hope all's good in your world.
I don't view myself as impolite or intolerant, with regards to ignorance/understanding possibly.
I do struggle to understand how millions of intelligent people throughout the world believe so completely in a story book, however if their beliefs help them in moments of weakness or darkness then crack on and believe away.
Maybe only true believers get to wear woolly tank tops.

David-if you don't see yourself as impolite, re-read your original post. If you still don't think you're impolite, then you are deluded as well. Perhaps you could post a picture of yourself so we could all learn about your impeccable fashion sense.

David, billions of people around the world believe in God/Gods, are you going to disrespect all of their preachers or just the Reverend in Liphook?

Services at Bramshott Church really are a most peaceful, de-stressing experience. The atmosphere of the place is most relaxing and therapeutic.
I would like to add that I have received no gratuity for this recommendation, and have not at any time been offered privileged access to The Lord.
