The Anchor
- Joseph Christmas (22nd Apr 2021 - 18:36:00)
Is the Anchor beer garden open?
Doesn’t look like it is.... anyone know why and when it might be opening?

It probably took you longer to log in here to ask the question than it would for you to have Googled it yourself.
Your post would have had to been reviewed by the admin also, thereby wasting their time.
www.hungryhorse.co.uk/pubs/hampshire/royal-anchor
Their homepage says the pub opens May 17th.

JD
If the Original poster wishes to ask that is their right - it is after all a community page.
Why do you have to be so snotty about it? Not harming you him asking is it?
No.
Good.
Then off you trot.

wish it would stay closed or be sold to Wetherspoons or similar. Current operation an abomination

JD, why are you being so toxic to a simple question?
I have never particularly liked the anchor but when it opens it's another place to go to meet people in Liphook and have a meal.

Hi All,
Being factual isn't being "toxic".
It's factually accurate that asking that question [above] on here and waiting for people to reply takes longer than to navigate oneself the pub's homepage where the opening date is displayed in a big, bold headline.
Reviewing my reply, I could have perhaps rephrased the reference to "wasting" the moderators' time to make it sound less confrontational.
The original poster should be aware that all posts on here are moderated. If the moderators are happy to be a filter for every question that could (and should) be put to Google then fair enough. But I would suggest that their time is better spent moderating genuine debate about local issues or information that can't be easily found on a search engine rather than reading posts from people who can't be arsed to Google something for themselves.
Perhaps the original post was just a stream of consciousness and/or an effort to kick start a debate about the Anchor? If so, fair enough - but perhaps ask a broader question that would gain value from this board's users rather than asking a question that has an answer you'd get from Googling yourself.
See...how much time has the OP wasted now!?

Well i'm looking forward to the opening, good food at a good price and decent portions.
As for the beer garden i think it should be open but the Anchor is part of a chain and the whole chain has decided to open in May as alot of their branches don't have gardens like the Anchor.

JD,
You're reply is toxic.
You mention wasting the editors time on approving posts, its the editors choice. They use this system, they can easily change it and do a 'report' based system for in appropriate comments etc, they CHOOSE to review it.
Asking the question on a public website also allows other people to know when the Anchor opens, so it BENEFITS everyone.

Well, who is this JD? such a know all boring person. A lot of people do not understand how to get onto different places such as Google etc, and this poor chap was probably hoping for a friendly reply on here about the Anchor. All he got was a load of abuse, just to say we are not all like this JD, some of us are only to willing to help people, so don't be put off by his know all attitude.

AF good food? Really? The place is awful, to be avoided as a restaurant and pub.

- JD (24th Apr 2021 - 20:33:09)
Evening all,
@Richard Robertson. I'm not denying that it's the OP's right to ask what they wish. I'm just baffled why they would feel the need to when they can simply get the information themselves from the pub's website. From the horse's mouth, if you excuse the pun. I hope I added to the community spirit by answering the question in my reply.
@James Yes, the moderators have chosen to run this site and review posts. I'm pointing out to the OP that by posting on here there's manual intervention and thereby a delay to getting the answer back.
@Wendy Martin. Please can you highlight the "load of abuse" you allege I've given? Pointing out that a) it takes longer to ask a question on here and b) that it wastes the moderators' time is hardly abuse or targeted insults.
I don't claim to know it all. But when I don't know something, I'll try to find out the information for myself rather than bothering others with questions I could find the answers to myself.
I agree with you that there are many people that don't know how to use the internet well. But by being capable enough to ask a question on here, the OP has demonstrated that they're capable enough to ask a question on Google for themselves.
Assuming the OP had had this site bookmarked they would have had to take the following steps:
1) Click on "start new thread"
2) fill out Name, email address, subject and message.
They then typed a message that had 20 words and 105 characters.
3) Complete some mental arithmetic in order to pass the security question
4) Wait for the post to be approved and published
5) Sit back and wait for the readership of the thread to go and Google the answer for him.
Instead, he could have just done this:
bit.ly/3tPGFV3
Not so hard is it?
Perhaps Joseph Christmas could have phrased his original post along these lines:
Hi all, I passed the Anchor recently and saw the beer garden wasn't open. I've taken a look at their website and it says it reopens on May 17th.
I'm looking forward to going/avoiding [delete as appropriate].
Now, that's what I call a community-minded post.

Agree with JD, sometimes people ask very obvious questions on here when it would be quicker and easier to just search for it like most people do.
I understand it's everyones prerogative to post on here what ever they want, but it's also anyones prerogative to comment on that post as they see fit, in a respectful way obviously.
I love the fact that some have accused JD of abusing the OP where as they themselves have abused JD. Kettle and pot comes to mind?
