Nectar points
- Kathy (3rd Apr 2021 - 06:25:42)

Just wanted to advise you to check your points total as mine had gone. When I phoned nectar I was told they had been spent in London. Which was not me ,it appears my card was cloned . Nectar have reimbursed my points .So please beware.

Same thing happened to my partner last week. She had just transferred Avios points into Nectar and the next day they had been spent in Bridgeport in Wales. Thankfully with lockdown there was no way it was us so Nectar refunded.

Not sure how this happened to you and others but criminals can buy card scanners which can copy your card details from your bag simply by walking past you and then make up a cloned card and spend your money, not just nectar cards but credit and debit cards as well.
You can buy card holder boxes to stop this, they are basically faraday cages and the cards cannot be scanned. The other option which i have used is to buy a DF card which is the same size as a credit card and you put it in your wallet and it blocks any scanners. Works really well the only downside is 80% of the time you go through shop doorways the alarms go off, i think it's funny but some might find it annoying, but the shop staff very rarely stop you.

Not sure if DF is just a typo, but I think this is what AF is suggesting - amazon.co.uk/POWR-Blocking-Contactless-Payment-Protection/....

Apologies. You are correct.

AF

Nectar cards do not have a chip, are not wirelessly activated and only have a magnetic stripe so it's not possible to scam read them just by passing by.

Nectar it would seem has a big issue with theft of points, partly because there is no chip and pin as security and partly because of other areas where security is lax.

It is good that the above had their points refunded.
