Liphook Flower Shows
- El (22nd Jul 2011 - 10:06:55)
Hi,
Can anyone tell me where entry forms for the 'open' flower shows can be found?
One year I photocopied it from a booklet in the library but have not found anything there since.
It would be nice to enter but not being a member of the society or knowing anyone in that circle it is hard to find out.
I'm sure there would be more entries/interest if more readily available.

Hi El
Entries for this Saturday's show should have been in by Wednesday but it may be worth ringing the Show Secretary Anne Govier on 722121 to see if there's space.
If you come along tomorrow you can pick up a schedule and entry form for the Autumn Show on 10 September.
I'll mention the library issue to Anne and maybe we'll find a better way of broadcasting the information and entry forms for the Autumn.

Thanks Ed, I'll talk to Anne about it and see who has the electronic copy.

Did anything come of the suggestion to put entry forms to flower shows on this site or in the library?

The Autumn Flower Show is on 10th September and if you call Ian Haussauer on 01428 723045 he can help you with a schedule.
Unfortunately the library didn't accept a copy of the programme and show schedule earlier in the year.
If you were to join the Bramshott, Liphook and District Horticultural Society which is very reasonable at £8 pa individual membership and £14 a year for family membership, then you automatically get sent a programme and show schedule. In addition you'd be able to exhibit in the Spring Show which is for members only, as well as get discounts in local garden centres like Springfields, Luffs, Lindsay Churt Brothers, Seale Nurseries, Millais Nurseries and Haslemere Garden Centre. (You can make your money back on discounts alone!) There is also a programme of speakers which you could attend for free!
Hope this helps

Once again I will raise the issue of entry forms for the so called 'open' flower shows.
I do not wish to join the Horticultural Society at this time, nor do I wish to bother their contact at home by phone.
I would like to be able to obtain a copy of the entry form and decide in my own time if I am going to enter and not feel that I have to because I have caused someone bother by contacting them specially to get a copy.
Last year the offer was made of allowing the forms to be placed on this website but I don't suppose anything came of it?
I don't see that these shows are very 'open'.

Hi
Why don't you pop to the spring show on 14 April and you can pick up a programme then. This will also give you the opportunity to meet everyone and see what a friendly society we are. The two open shows are summer and autumn so it will give you plenty of time to decide whether to enter or not. Due to the printing costs of the programme we would ask for a donation of 50p to cover this.
There are 159 classes in total so a bit much to list on the internet.
Regards
Katy

Oh El! Sorry but I can't help laughing at this thread, I think you may have reached a brick wall!
Horticultural Society: I wonder if you realise how you are coming across - which is as though you don't care for people entering the open flower shows and are only after membership money and people at meetings.
Surely you could provide a copy of the entry form and details to the editor who has kindly offered to add it to this website - it wouldn't be a long list clogging up the internet, it would be a document that only interested parties would download! And there is clearly interest, it seems like you are putting people off by making this information difficult to get hold of.
Don't you think that if you made it more available then more people might enter the open flower shows - and this might result in more people joining as members.
As you said, i'm you you're a very friendly society - but you are really not coming accross as so to non-members reading this thread!!

Sarah,
Sorry you did not like my reply to El, believe it or not I was only trying to help her by inviting her to come and meet everyone, pick up some tips on showing etc. So sorry if you took offence to this!!!
El, you or anyone else are welcome to come to the shows and pick up a programme, or ring Ian, as Miranda mentioned last September.
The idea of putting the entry form on the internet WAS discussed at a committee meeting last August. I personally am all in favour of it being on here but the majority of members were not comfortable with it being on Liphook.co.uk AT THAT TIME.
I will bring up the subject again at the next committee meeting which is not until 28th March. In the mean time, as already expressed, all are welcome to come to the meetings (listed on this website!), and flower shows etc.etc.
Kind regards
Katy

The Spring Show on 14th April is members only as far as showing is concerned, but everyone is welcome to come and view and enjoy some tea and excellent home made cakes
The summer and autumn shows are open to all.

Dear El,
Your wish is our command! Thanks to the editor for putting the programme on this site, hopefully you will now be able to take a look and hopefully join in. Maybe you can come to the spring show a week on Saturday? If not we hope to see you in the future.
Did you manage to get to Gardener's Question Time at the Millennium Centre? If so it is broadcast on Radio 4 this Sunday at 2pm. If you miss it don't worry you can listen on iplayer.
Kind regards
Katy
