Diminished supply
- Donald (13th Feb 2021 - 10:19:49)
Cannot help notice that the range of produce in Liphook Sainsburys has somewhat reduced of late. I have not been out of Liphook since the beginning of the year so do not know if this is just happening here or is more widespread?
If it is more widespread is it due to Pandemic, Brexit or just general supply chain problems. Or is it that there are some administrative difficulties in the local store.
Still a reasonable choice generally and the staff on the shop floor are great but I am finding I am not getting everything I want each visit.
For example, i recently could not get Schwepps tonic water, pak choi, Oatly milk, and the range of soups has significantly declined

I think we are going to see a big change in our shopping we will hopefully see more BRITISH goods in our supermarkets . We will hopefully change over to support our British suppliers and stop buying from abroad our farmers need us to support them. If we support our suppliers they will be able to become more competitive which will benefit us.

50 per cent of our food comes from abroad. We would have empty shelves on the winter and no fresh goods for sale except a few carrots, potatoes and other root veg.

Still many years later looking at my watch waiting for this promised golden rainbow post Brexit time to occur! Still waiting on all these benefits. Can’t wait to taste British grown tea or even coffee!
Wonderful feeling having let the political class take back control... not seen any member of the public receiving any of these control we took back yet.
Am sure it’s just around the corner right?
We just need to form a trade deal with say a large country or group of countries and ideally close to us and it will be alright again... hmm

Unfortunately the real consequences of our lack of trade deals with the rest of the world are now becoming apparent. The economic advisers were largely ignored pre the vote for brexit. Due to our climate we cannot grow the range of fruit and veg, plus farmers cannot get people to harvest what we do grow as seasonal foreign workers from europe are not allowed here.

For goodness sake, why do people have to be so negative, so sarcastic, if we all paid a bit more for milk for example, the farmers wouldnt go out of business, if we all bought British where possible, it would help the country get back on its feet. Just give it a chance, whatever we all voted for whether to stay in or go out, its happened, accept it, and try and help this poor old country of ours, dont keep running it down, Im sure it could be good again if we all worked for it.

WENDY MARTIN:
I agree with your point that we must make the best of a bad deal and support the British economy. A good reason for people to keep pointing out the disaster that Brexit is, is to build up a case for future referenda, decisions and future votes on any subject: Follow the experts, not the populists if you want what is good for you.
For all those who measure the success / failure of Brexit by means of how much we pay for a tomato / cod / milk: You are missing out the big picture. Brexit can bring war, decimate our "service-based" economy, sever international ties and generally further degrade our stand globally.
I too have noticed a reduction in stocking at Liphook Sainsbury's, could be Brexit or COVID or who knows what else is up next.

Totally agree Wendy here we go again the remainers jumping on the band waggon .OP post few things missing at Sainsbury’s and of of they go. No mention of how we have out done the EU with the vaccines. Our minister’s have been working away quietly doing hundreds of deals around the world. And as for not having tea or coffee let’s drink our home grown wine that’s better than the EUs. The MAJORITY voted to LEAVE they wanted our country back.Just a point before we joined the common market as it was then we had the largest fishing port in the WORLD GRIMSby why did it have to be given to the FRENCH ?? .We were an industrial nation building cars ships you name it we built it. What has happen to our BRITISH SPIRIT this generation seems not to want to work at making us competitive again. We can be. Finally the EU is in a MESS let’s all pull together and show them we are a nation to be reckoned with .

Re, do you really think our wine is better than Europes? I’m not a remainer so don’t throw that back at me but I do not support the splendid isolation nonsense your spout. For the record our Aussie cousins have really been shafted by the Chinese so we should show support by drinking as much Aussie wine as possible (and it is way better than most English plonk!)

I yes you are quite right Australia fantastic wine far better than EU stuff . I didn’t mean not to trade with the world quite the opposite it just makes my blood boil when people keep saying that we aren’t as good as the EU and we cannot do with out them . The AUSTRALIANS call us the old country they cannot understand why we have taken so much crap from the EU . I have relatives in AUSTRALIA and many friends have been many times. Why do we stand for all the abuse from FRANCE when we could trade with countries that want to trade with us. We have bent over backwards to try and come to a good trade agreement but FRANCE has put the boot in all the time. We are now looking to home production have you tried the cheese from the day centre on Tuesday far better than from across the channel. Let’s trade with the countries that want to trade forget about the ones that don’t.I shall await the onslaught.

Here we go again.
We should have not left the EU, we are going to come to a sticky end. When people shopping goes up by 40% and they cant get what they want, people will start to ask questions. We are island and rely heavily on what we bring to this island by sea and air.

- Re (14th Feb 2021 - 16:50:12)
Yes Jacob here we go again talking a load of rubbish 49% ridiculous complete rubbish in fact scaremongering. We can still buy goods from outside the EU probably much cheaper or we can produce it in this country all we need is to believe in ourselves.

Re - You sound like someone who has left their partner then gets all bitter and twisted because they get on with their life asnd refuse to let you walk all over them! We’ve left the EU, for good or bad but let’s continue to enjoy the delights of Europe like their cheese, wine, bratwursts etc. Your attitude is that of an infantile sulking brat, grow up! We are going to pay more for many things, border controls will apply both ways, our cost of living will go up, these are facts but please stop this childish Europe is rubbish attitude, they remain our neighbours and as with all neighbours we will need to get along with them despite the mistakes we make and they make. Oh, and just to say once again I am not a remainer although I remain fond of Europe

This countrys' national drink is tea, how on earth cn we produce that? A decent bottle of English wine is about 18 pounds a bottle. Glad you can afford that. We enjoy our Pizzas we could not possibly produce a tomato puree in enough quantity to make the Pizza.

Jeff - Tea can be grown in Cornwall. And it is.
tregothnan.co.uk
I have no idea if it's any good, mind.

Having looked at the link the tea costs 38 pound for 11grams of loose tea. Might make one pot of tea. It is obviously very costly to produce in cornwall.

Anyway, where in Europe are you buying your tea from?
