Burning Garden Waste
- Liphook Local (11th Feb 2021 - 15:53:57)

I want to have a February bonfire in my garden. Garden rubbish, sticks etc.

I am pretty sure this is allowed under the local council 'regs'.

I'll keep it 'clean' - very little smoke. A nice, hot burn - not those smokey garden bonfires some people seem to specialise in.

But I don't want to enrage local opinion - what's the general view these pandemic, lockdown times? Is this ok? Everything is different now, it's sometimes hard to know what is the 'new normal'.

Thanks

Hi,
I live in quite a built up area of Liphook and don't mind the odd bonfire as long as it doesn't go on all day. In normal circumstances I would say to speak to your closest neighbours first and pre warn them.

Having said all that, there are some people in Liphook who get their knickers in a twist over anything and will happily moan about the tiniest bit of smoke. So, you will probably upset someone, but if you're not going to make it a regular occurrence, I would go for it.

Good luck!

Wouldn't hedgehogs still be hibernating at the bottom of bonfire heaps in this freezing weather?

At this time of year, no one is sitting in their gardens, windows are likely to be closed and laundry is not likely to be drying outside so bonfires are much less antisocial than in the summer.
