Litter
- Brian Cranston-Moran (9th Feb 2021 - 11:48:52)

Drinks cans and plastic bottles Sandwich & snack packages thrown down along side the roads. Some dog owners do not pick up dog poo, some do not even keep watch on what the dog is doing because they are on the phone or chatting to friend .Then there arethe few that pick up but leave it or HANG it in the trees. What is the matter with these few ,please take it and put it in the BIN. Imagine what it would be like if we all just left our rubbish, or did not pick up our dog poo.Come on Please.

Couldn’t agree more. We are all soldiers in this war against Covid and, at this very difficult time, there is absolutely no reason why every individual can’t take some responsibility. Littering, in whatever form, is not acceptable and completely unnecessary.

I agree. The state of the roadside verges in this area is absolutely appalling. I suspect that other areas are similar. It's a national disgrace!

What can be done to stem the tide of filth and junk generated by the people who see fit to lob their leftover takeaways, half-finished cans of booze, bottles, packets and sometimes entire bags of rubbish out of their cars and onto the verges?

I often go out with my litter picker and pick up bags full of other people's junk, but it's a drop in the ocean. Even if I did it for hours every day, it wouldn't stop the tide from coming in again and again.

The most severe level of litter is on the exits from the A3 where drivers lob their litter from their vehicle on their way home or to/from work!
It is too dangerous to attempt to clear this rubbish ourselves and we all have to rely on Highways England to take action.
However there are litter hot spots throughout the Parish especially at Passfield, Hewshottt Lane and the other B roads leading from The Square. In addition under the A3 bridge where the path leads up to the St Mary's Church and behind the library are similarly affected.
When we go out walking we take a couple of plastic bags to collect litter. We have noticed other walkers similarly collecting litter, but it is an on going problem and quite frustrating that it is so prevalent.

Apart from on the pavements leaving dog poo out of plastic to degrade naturally as horse riders do is better for the environment than putting it in plastic bags on the path or tree. How many cat owners clear up poo into plastic bags?
