cycling on the ranges.
- OLLIE (20th Jan 2021 - 12:19:16)

Can anyone tell me if you are allowed to cycle inside the ranges ie.around the ponds & into the forest heading towards liphook?

It's a SSSI site so I'm not sure. Plenty of signs up so best bet would be to read them or ring the ops room.
As a frequent walker there I've never seen cyclists inside the perimeter walk, only on.

I think I’m right in saying that the MOD turn a blind eye to cyclists as long as they are on the gravel track around perimeter only.

It's probably not a good idea to ride your bicycle on a firing range.

Access onto a firing range would be permitted as long as the red flags on the perimeter are NOT flying.

Having said this if the gate onto the range is shut you should not trespass onto the range.

Also be aware that whilst on the range you may be challenged by the rangewarden as to what you are doing and if unable to provide adequate explanation they may call authorities in.

Safer to stick to the perimeter

I was asking this question as last Saturday we had been for a walk & approaching the small wooded area just beyond the large pond when 2 blokes on mountain bikes came through the gate & headed up the slope & into the middle of the ranges, ive always thought this was out of bounds to cyclists & that they should only use the outer track.

I always stick to the track myself, Ollie.

There is two public footpaths running through the range area, but they must not be used by cyclists.
Access to these footpaths is prohibited when the red flags are flying because the ranges are in use.
The O.S.map shows the location of these footpaths.

It'll only be a matter of time before a walker/cyclist gets a "Lead Vaccine" with the amount of COVID tourists exploring the ranges.
