Once the Tunnel opens - which route to Haslemere?
- jenny (17th Jul 2011 - 16:34:11)

I have noticed that as you approach Hindhead from Liphook on the A3, there is no sign for Haslemere (ie via Hindhead). This then means that anyone coming North on the A3 will be sent into Liphook to go to Haslemere (ie. via Junction East). Surely this will mean that we shall have increased traffic coming into Liphook once the Tunnel opens? Does anyone know different?

Will they not be sorting out where the traffic lights are and then we would turn right as we do now and go down into Weyhill. I might be wrong, but it would make sense.

Well spotted. In Bramshott we will have the same trouble with traffic coming and going to Passfield and Whitehill.

From Guildford, I assume that Haslemere traffic will come off at the Godalming junction?

It is a bit of a circuitous route, but still better than driving past it and then doubling back through Liphook.

Will there be no turning back into Haslemere from Hindhead? I would have thought we would have come off at the exit and roundabout that exists at the moment, immediately after the tunnel, marked Grayshott and then gone down the long straight before the existing Hindhead lights and turn right? Or will the Hammer turning still be there?

Yes the turn for Hammer is open but only two way for a short distance, you cant get to the cross roads that way, as its one way for about 50yards, due to the narrow road!!! You can come from Hammer cross roads to theA3 souhtbound only.

From Guildford direction you can come off at Witley and drive via Brook into Haslemere - probably same kind of time / distance as going up to the lights now and turning left.

Original plans show access to/from Haslemere via the new roundabouts and Hindhead crossroads- don't think this has changed.

I read all your theories on how to get to Haslemere, but anyone who is not familiar with the area will look for SIGNS - there is nothing after the Liphook turning that says Haslemere - surely they won't wait until nearly in Godalming? I wonder what Sat Nav will do????
