New shaft for my wood splitting axe
- Local Resident (2nd Jan 2021 - 18:29:08)

I need a new hickory shaft for my trusty wood splitting axe. Any suggestions as to who could do this locally?

(I don't expect the NINETY FIVE responses that my last post engendered. I've just noticed. Amazing)

Thanks

Last Yule I bought my son a beautiful hand forged axe. Unfortunately the handle has shrunk a little and the head is somewhat loose!
Can either of the above mentioned suggestions help?

Ratchel if you look at the axe head there are cleats driven in to swell the shaft in the head drive them in a little more. Then put the axe head in a bucket of water for a while see if that helps.

I had a similar problem and was advised to put the axe head into a bucket of water for a couple of days.

The wooden shaft will expand when wet forming a tight joint.
