Highways and Byways
- Nick (15th Jul 2011 - 13:33:14)

It was suggested that a 20mph limit be imposed in church road(minute 39/11 june) this was turned down on the ground of not enough houses.

Church road ,Rectory lane, Trunbridge lane are all narrow and visability not up to par. I find 20mph is a safe speed to negotiate thse lanes/roads.

Has anyone considered the Quiet Road Possibility?

I have myself brought this matter up many times in the past and have had no luck I live in Hewshott which is just as bad, and an electronic census was taken, and I was told that the volume of speed and of traffic was not high enough to reduce the speed limits.I have also raised quiet lanes and been told that the county council would not be pursuing this in our area. The 20 is plenty signnage again I was told was for built up areas only..

I have been asked by the Bramshott bugle to write a piece on local roads within Bramshott itself in response to our councillors reply pehaps the county council/East hampshire
should remind themselves that the local parish council is the first port of call for concerns and should not be ignored as seems the case re church road.

Brush off the concern etc and it might go away seems to be the thought of these people, might cost money. I used this system and made the county councillor (not the employee) come and see for himself why the question was raised. First hand knowledge is not a dangerous thing is it ?

If there are insufficient house in Church Road for a 20 speed limit. How many do you need? From the A3 there is a continous line of houses on the right hand side and on the left the same applies. Who on earth thinks up these ridiculous reason to quash a long felt need of the residents? Is it our elected representatives?`

It is certainly not Parish Councillors, all requests such as these are passed to the county council Highways dept, which is based in Winchester. The Parish Council have in the past sent just such a request on to the County Council. I have investigated this myself and recieved a reply that the 20 is plenty signs applied to large housing estates such as those in Havant.

So what do we need to do to make the faceless ones at Winchester to take Notice?

Bombard them with complaints on the HCC website. I have done this and they have been out to inspect our road and are going to rectify the problem.

Putting in complaints in the HCC website does work. Residents did the same thing for the B3004 through Passfield.

However.......
without enforcement, a speed sign is next to useless.

We do have very nice new (little) 40 signs all the way through Passfield. It was 50 before.
It's like the Grand Prix some weekends!

at about 1800 hrs today(or possibly a bit later ) incident occurred at the junction of Tunbridge lane Understand it was a shunt between two vehicles . Is this the first to happen on this road or have there been many?
