FLORA THOMPSON
- CAROL KNIGHT (16th Nov 2020 - 16:36:13)

Can anyone tell me if the bust of Flora Thompson is still in existence please? Haven't been to Liphook for years and just wondered if it was still there. I did see in a previous posting about Flora Thompson being involved it the slave trade!!!! Hardly! She was born to a poor family in Oxfordshire and married a post master from the Isle of Wight who had no connection to the slave trade! I can confirm that as he was my great uncle!!

I can indeed, it's in the library (the girl's school building). Very apt place for the bust of an author.

The bust of Flora Thompson is located in the Liphook Library.
It was relocated from outside of the Royal Mail sorting office some years ago.

Carole,
I currently live at Woolmer Gate where Flora lived for a year before her and your Great Uncle moved away. Think it was 1927-1928!

Thank you for your info. When lockdown is properly over I will come down and pay my respects to Great Aunt Flora. Thanks again! CK
