The Anchor closing
- Jacob (5th Nov 2020  09:45:37)

Is it true that The Anchor is not going to re-open after the lockdown?

Re: The Anchor closing
- David (5th Nov 2020  12:15:39)

no

Re: The Anchor closing
- Jacob (5th Nov 2020  13:49:32)

Phew!! Just hearsay then.😁

Re: The Anchor closing
- John (5th Nov 2020  18:27:14)

You think the Anchor can prepare and maintain its ā€œCovid Safeā€ when it can’t even clean the carpets/tables/menu/knives/forks etc?

Happy to see it shut down, knowing this brewery they prob invented the story to make more of us attend and support our local businesses when actually all the profit rolls up to head office.

Re: The Anchor closing
- Ian (5th Nov 2020  20:36:30)

So John, you would be happy to see this historic landmark building empty then? Because that’s what will happen if Green King pull the plug and we’ll have yet another eyesore wreck in the centre of our village! Too many keyboard warriors happy to slag off our village amenities to satisfy their petty need to criticise and fuel their online ego!!!

Re: The Anchor closing
- John (5th Nov 2020  22:47:58)

Ian,

Green King care nothing about the history of the building, so much so the upper floors are condemned already and not a penny is spent on maintaining this history you refer to, their only interest is how much money rings through the tills. But your a smart man am sure your utterly correct that a faceless corporate is the best guardian of local history.

Re: The Anchor closing
- Ian (6th Nov 2020  09:59:52)

So John, you would rather see it empty, with all that means?

I'm no fan of corporate business modals but in todays climate, if vacated by Green King this building could be empty for years, surely even you are bright enough to see what's happening in the hospitality industry

It’s good to see someone else wanting to save our Conservation Square. Yes I have been banging on about it for some time. John has a point Green King should maintain the building better as it is a listed building. Our Square is the Centre of our community and I lay the blame at the door of EHDC Planning they seem not to want to listen to the Liphook People. They have a department that deals with listed buildings and Conservation areas. They are letting us down badly. The Pollution caused by the Tremendous amount of Traffic Through The Square every day is something that must be addressed .In 20 years time we will not have a Conservation Square.

Old resident, we all agree the Anchor could be better maintaned, but building 600 houses in the National Park will not achieve that. Have you written to Greene King head office?

Re: The Anchor closing
- D (6th Nov 2020  16:29:55)

Is the Anchor in the S.D.N.P.?

Re: The Anchor closing
- Ian (6th Nov 2020  16:43:23)

D - no

Re: The Anchor closing
- John (6th Nov 2020  19:32:32)

Ian,

Of course I can see what is happening to that industry, do I care, yes, but do I really care for those that perform it as poorly as the anchor is run then no. It’s natural selection.

It’s all very well shouting me down, but your not really coming up with alternatives, at least am putting my flag on something, your just putting you flag on me.

The place looks awful as it is from outside, it’s has historical bird sh*t all over it from 300 years ago still. Anyone new driving though the village and seeing that must instantly know it’s rough.

Re: The Anchor closing
- Ian (6th Nov 2020  20:29:07)

John, not shouting, but will repeat the question, ā€œwould you really prefer to see the building empty?ā€

Re: The Anchor closing
- Grin (7th Nov 2020  11:44:51)

QUESTION?
Any chance Mr Trump has a business interest in this place. Judging from the fake reviews on TripAdvisor, which are laughable at best, its should have a Michelin star........

Re: The Anchor closing
- rolli (7th Nov 2020  12:49:48)

The reviews are astonishing! Can anyone really look at them and think they are anything other than fake?

Re: The Anchor closing
- Helen (7th Nov 2020  12:57:15)

We ate there during the ā€˜eat out to help out’ scheme and we were very impressed with the whole set up. I’m fully aware of the mixed reviews this place gets but our positive review on Trip Advisor certainly isn’t fake.

Re: The Anchor closing
- Grin (7th Nov 2020  17:06:53)

Well, 99% of the good ones must be fake!
They only mention the staff, Chaz, dwayne, shaz & shaz.
Seriously...!!!
If you ate there whilst the government scheme was on, you must of come out with more in your account.?

Re: The Anchor closing
- john (7th Nov 2020  23:01:04)

Ian,

Am presuming my answer to your question opens some sort of camber of wisdom your dying to reveal to us all, given your insistent and repeated request for it?

In the philosophy of arguments I can see you have hung everything on my answer, when your question has nothing to do with me, only yourself.... so why should I bother... I never talked about the vacancy of the building... you did

Before you pipe back, its not for you to decide its vacant, any number of options exist, you just choose to name one for your own purposes.
