Sainsbury’s
- Nobby (1st Nov 2020 - 14:11:46)

Who are the selfish ppl stockpiling again? Seriously!!!! We have a 2 week old baby just been to get some nappies and none! Seriously this is a joke!!!!!! Grow up and think of others!

Re: Sainsbury’s
- John (1st Nov 2020 - 16:51:07)

Yep, no toilet roll and no pasta already!

the low collective intelligence of our community is the reason we will fail at beating Covid as well.

Re: Sainsbury’s
- Ian (1st Nov 2020 - 22:32:47)

WTF why have the management at Sainsbury’s not got a handle in this? They know people are thick and this sort of nonsense has happened earlier this year yet they have allowed it to happen again! Idiots!

Re: Sainsbury’s
- Sue (2nd Nov 2020 - 07:09:31)

We are talking stocking levels issues of the same products the second time around. This time it can't be the shopping habits that are baffling, rather, it is the supply chain that is baffling me in their poor capacity / competence / foresight / resilience.
I blame the suppliers for not being helpful, missing out on the opportunity for an extra buck by the way.

Hi Bobby
I have an opened pack of papers. 3 used for dolls if they're any good to you.

Re: Sainsbury’s
- Penny Williamson (2nd Nov 2020 - 09:33:39)

Sue it is absolutely not the suppliers who at fault. The blame for empty shelves sits firmly on the heads of those that panic buy. There were plenty of toilet rolls and pasta on the shelves at Sainsburys 2 weeks ago. i spoke to one of the managers at Sainsburys after the first Lockdown and he confirmed that the supplies don't change, people do with their selfish "me first" attitudes.

Re: Sainsbury’s
- OLLIE (2nd Nov 2020 - 12:18:03)

Totally agree Penny, must be the same people that frequent the Hungry Horse & need the the loo roll.

Re: Sainsbury’s
- Ann (2nd Nov 2020 - 14:52:34)

Well said Penny, I totally agree with you.

Nobby,

Have you considered getting some reusable nappies? They've come a very long way since the days of terry-towelling squares! Saves chucking loads of nappies in the bin and avoids the worry of not being able to buy disposables.

Here's just a one of the many companies that sell them.

- Sue (2nd Nov 2020 - 18:37:10)

In response to Penny Williamson (2nd Nov 2020 09:33:39).

'he confirmed that the supplies don't change' is precisely the issue. It's the vendors role to adjust and optimise their supply volume, frequency etc.
'he confirmed that the supplies don't change', he might as well have told you: 'Tough!!, the vendors (Sainsbury's) can't be bothered'. We don't change = we don't want to change. Baffling.

Hi nobby,
We have some Aldi size one nappies which we don't need now.
Email me on liphook_iim@gmail.com if you want them

Hi guys, I just wanted to extend the cloth nappy discussion.
For all the menstruating ladies out there, please think about using washable sanitary pads! the good ones can be a bit expensive for initial lay out but will safe £££££'s down the line. For ladies who do not like pads, a menstrual cup is a brilliant little gadget :-)
The environment and your purse, will thank you xxx

- David (3rd Nov 2020 - 13:09:03)

And for all you fellas; consider sheep's intestines and string for reusable and enviromentally friendly birth control. Beacon Hill butchers open as normal through lockdown

Re: Sainsbury’s
- Steve (3rd Nov 2020 - 13:12:47)

Given current nervousness about adequacy of toilet roll supplies, it appears from some very quick research on the internet that something around half of UK supplies come into the UK from the EU.
January might be interesting!

Re: Sainsbury’s
- Penny Williamson (3rd Nov 2020 - 13:53:02)

@ Sue Whilst I agree that vendors have to adjust supplies to market demand in normal circumstances and they do, that is how they make money – they watch market trends. However, these are not normal circumstances and this would be almost impossible to achieve in the short term when there is panic buying which hopefully will not last too long when those very selfish people realise that supplies and therefore shelves are being re-stocked regularly. In the first Lockdown people settled down and shortages were not apparent for the whole 3 months. Sue you seem to have a "blind" spot when you say that the vendors are responsible in this very difficult time for the shortages. Can you not see that it is the panic buyers who are creating the shortages not the suppliers? You seem to be condoning this unacceptable behaviour which would be completely unforgivable in normal times, let alone in the middle of a pandemic crisis. I will never forget the nurse on television in the last Lockdown, in tears, having been on a 12 hour shift in intensive care, only to find when she went shopping, that the shelves were bare. I actually asked a member of staff at Waitrose why the managers did not restrict shoppers who were obviously stockpiling – the answer was they would just pay for what were allowed in their trolley, leave the supermarket, load up their cars and then go round again. Human beings at their very worst – me, me, me. In conclusion it is not only Sainsburys that run out of things like toilet rolls, pasta etc it is Waitrose, Tesco and the Co-op, so you go on blaming them all you like but it is the public who are to blame.

Re: Sainsbury’s
- David (3rd Nov 2020 - 16:04:34)

Penny. I don't think you will find Waitrose customers behave this way;-)

Re: Sainsbury’s
- Penny Williamson (3rd Nov 2020 - 18:56:35)

David If you read my post you will see that it was a Waitrose manager who told me at the beginning of the first Lockdown that some of their customers were doing exactly that - panic buying - and when I suggested that they were asked to restrict themselves to 1 packet of 12 toilet rolls instead of 4, he said that it was a waste of time as they paid for the goods allowed, loaded up their cars and then came back in for more toilet rolls or whatever it was they were stockpiling. Plus the fact he said some of the customers were rude verging on the abusive such "you can't tell me what I can buy and what I can't" etc and this was in Waitrose in Alton.

Re: Sainsbury’s
- Penny Williamson (3rd Nov 2020 - 18:59:19)

David, having just looked at your post again perhaps you were trying to be funny!! As in Waitrose customers would never panic buy - perish the thought. This selfishness knows no boundaries, class or wealth. It is just the nature of so many human beings. Scratch the surface to find the savage underneath.

Re: Sainsbury’s
- Joe (3rd Nov 2020 - 19:29:58)

I shop in Waitrose and in the last lockdown the toilet rolls were not in evidence there. Overall until shops ration some items they will be scarce.

Re: Sainsbury’s
- WENDY MARTIN (4th Nov 2020 - 07:44:38)

My husband went shopping in Sainsburys yesterday, had quite a long list and got everything on the list, including toilet rolls. I do think everyone is exaggerating how bad it is. This of course makes people panic and rush to buy, dont do it people, it doesnt help anything.

Re: Sainsbury’s
- Louise (7th Nov 2020 - 11:08:43)

Waitrose put in restrictions on certain products a week before lockdown to be prepared. Not sure other supermarkets were as organised. Stock at Sainsbury’s has always been hit and miss. Go after work and there is literally nothing to buy.

Re: Sainsbury’s
- penny (7th Nov 2020 - 17:03:48)

Since the 2 Lockdowns and the Covid restrictions I always shop at Sainsburys between 7pm and 8pm and I have always been able to buy everything I need. Waitrose in the last Lockdown did not have restrictions on anything - I don't know about this Lockdown. I have never had a problem with Sainsburys in normal times or now - yes they are medium sized and I am sure the Sainsburys in Farnham has a wider selection. To all those who constantly moan about Sainsburys, don't go there - shop somewhere else - there is a Co-op in Liphook if you want to stay in Liphook.

Re: Sainsbury’s
- Geoff (7th Nov 2020 - 19:36:18)

Apropos of almost nothing, there’s a new Sainsbury’s opening in Midhurst next week.

Re: Sainsbury’s
- Ian (7th Nov 2020 - 19:47:21)

Penny, you’re experiencing a very different Sainsbury’s from many others then!

Re: Sainsbury’s
- Sara (8th Nov 2020 - 19:25:59)

Disposable nappies have harsh chemicals in them. I never use them I always use terries or re use able ones.
