Drone over Liphook town centre
- Paul (12th Sep 2020  18:17:23)

Interesting to see a drone flown from roughly the Berg across the green and around the centre. In the air hovering over houses near the green at 1810 on Saturday 12th Sept 20.

Out of the 8 things you shouldnt do with a Drone according to the Drone Code by the UK Civil Aviation Authority this flight appears to have broken at least 4 of them!

1. Always keep your drone or model aircraft in direct sight

2. Never fly closer than 50m to people. Even when yourdrone is more than 50m away from people it is safer to avoid directly overflying them

3. Never fly closer than 50m to buildings,

4. Never fly closer than 150m to built-up areas.Never fly directly over a built-up area.

Anyone flying a drone or unmanned aircraft (including model aircraft) weighing between 250g (the weight of 2 iphones, which this craft definately was alot more than) and 20kg will need to take and pass an online education package. This is free and renewable every three years.

Both of these requirements become law on 30 November 2019.

So as cool as all this was it was also irresponsible, if that drone had of fallen out of the sky it could well have hurt someone. Note that the distances in the code are not just height distances, they are horizontal distances as well.

What we witnessed today was in fact a criminal act and any witnesses to the launch site or operators should phone the police and report them.

Time to invest in Liphook anti-drone air-defence measures. Perhaps a fleet of drone-killing drones? Need to dust off my barrage-balloons. Can't have my top-secret garden layout being leaked to hostile foreign nations.

It’s possibly the police flying the drones looking for excess heat coming from homes that are growing drugs. Years ago they use to fly a plane over the area, it use to go around every now and then doing the same thing. Next thing you know drugs raid going on.
