Hiya,

It starts on Monday. Should be done for the Holidays!!

Where is the play park? Might have the grandchildren coming over soon. Usually take them to Alice Holt - brilliant but exhausting. Like the idea of being able to take them somewhere withing walkin distance.

Just past the library on the London road towards the A3.
Although shut for revamp until end of July. There is always Radford park which you can walk around with a duck pond also on the same road, or you can access it via malthouse meadows.

- David (13th Jul 2011 - 13:36:07)

It's good to see the childrens' play area at the recreation ground being upgraded.

I see however the fencing up is of the same weak structure as before and will surely not last long with the yob element of Liphook. Before it's re-opened perhaps the Council can re-consider this and put up higher, more permanent fencing.

The playpark should be locked up at a certain time and access denied to the unsupervised yobs intent on destructing and personalising what is there. This is what will happen for sure without any forward thinking.

I feel sorry for my young kids and other young families who have kept away from the park because if its historic misuse by the yob culture. Damaged facilities, broken bottles, drug needles etc... the list goes on. I's all a great shame.

Great playpark, thanks all concerned. Infants, mums, grannies and great granny all enjoyed the afternoon sunshine. Nice thought having plenty of seating for the older generation to sit and watch the young ones having fun.

Fantastic, thank you so much to everyone involved in getting the playpark updated - you have all done a brilliant job, and deserve a big THANK YOU!

The children really enjoyed themselves yesterday afternoon, even the older teenagers were having a play!

Phase 2 - what's the plan, how much needs to be raised? Now that people can see Phase 1 complete, it will inspire people to push for phase 2 and find the money from somewhere!

I'd also like to say thank you to those who helped to give the play park its face lift.
My kids were playing there this morning, along with many others all bonding and having a good time. Us mums were particularly amused by the pole dancing training apparatus!! It gave us a good laugh.
Are we going to work on raising the rest of the money for phase 2 now? I'm ready to help.
:)

Took my five year old grandaughter to this fantastic playpark again today, unfortunately our enjoyment had to be curtailed because of the lack of toilet facilities. Lots of children there..... how do other parents feel ...... can we badger the the powers that be to provide a new block of toilets at the rec.

Re: play park
- Vicky (9th Aug 2011 - 19:32:08)

Park is fab! Kids love it, loos would be a welcomed addition.
What does phase 2 consist of?

Re: play park
- anon (9th Aug 2011 - 23:23:43)

hey david... Thanks for the kind compliments to us teens. Have u spoken to any of us and seen how friendly the majority of us are, or has your mind been plagued by the slander of the media? The minority put the majority down... And its a shame to think all teens are automatically labelled as 'yobs' because of it.

Re: play park
- Sharon (10th Aug 2011 - 08:59:43)

Hi anon - I think you were all enjoying yourself with the younger ones when the park opened on Friday! Everyone was having a great time, and you all made way for the younger ones that haven't learned to take turns and share yet.
You are right, it is the minority that spoils things for the majority.

Re: play park
- Jay (10th Aug 2011 - 19:16:36)

Dear Anon

Let's be fair here - I have re-read David's comments - I don't think he actually used the word "teens" did he? He just referred to "yobs" which could mean pre-teens, teens, senior citz or whoever - but if the cap fits and all that!

My teens and their friends went to the playpark - they are 14 and under and that used to be the age limit when I was a teen (not a yob) at the old Rec (when we had a witches hat and see-saw plank that gave you splinters). I was a bit concerned when two of them were on the swings that :

(a) they hit their heads on the tree branches above; and

(b) the wooden bar across the top was definitely moving and I wondered how long it would last even with proper use? Or is it supposed to do that?

Re: play park
- Helen M (14th Aug 2011 - 00:01:23)

hi

thanks for the nice comments about the park - it has been hard work but i think what we have come up with is a good balance of what liphook needs.

The swings are weight tested so should be fine! the trees - i had a word with the boys who were trying to pull the branches down by them so if they dont pull them down they should be fine - obviously I would think the council will sort them out if they do get in the way!!!

As with all things - not everyone will be happy with what they have - but it would be good to have some constructive criticism or indeed plain old good ideas about the park if it needs tweaking etc. i have asked for a couple of tweaks already - whether these will be done is up to the powers that be. I can only enjoy the park for what it is and its vast improvement on what was there before.

Phase 2 - i think 20k ish??? as soon as we can raise the money - any offers of help to fundraise or organise your own fundraising events and donate to phase 2 - great!!! the sooner we raise the money the sooner we can get phase 2 for the older children done!

I took my little grandchildren to the play park, it is really fantastic. Such a variety of original equipment - everyone involved should be really proud.

Saw all the little boys using the bushes - think the little girls must just cross their legs. Amazed that there aren't a couple of loos anywhere in the area. Maybe a couple could be attached to the back of the library with access from outside? It is rather essential for young children, not very nice to think of them being forced to use such a public area like that.

Re: play park
- Jenny (25th Aug 2011 - 15:08:18)

Spent a lovely afternoon yesterday in the new play area with my two grand daughters aged 6 and 3 - the children met school friends and it was lovely to meet other Grannies and Mums.

Unfortunately towards the end of our afternoon, some larger lads decided to take over - they certainly were not younger than 12. However, the Mums and grannies round me didn't want to confront a gang of lads - who parked all their bikes over the entrance to the Rec, so we had to manoevre our car round those - as they had tiny children with them; and when you asked them their age, you just received abusive language as they carried on using the equipment while little children looked on.

Is CCTV an option possibly, with an internet connection so it can be monitored? It might be worthwhile, especially as the equipment is very expensive. I see there are big padlocks for night time.

Re: play park
- Jenny (25th Aug 2011 - 19:27:25)

Since my previous posting, I have been told that children over 12 are supposed to go to the other play park, the other side of the rec which has larger equipment and skate park and basket ball pole.

So really, parents should ask older children to leave the tinies and go to the other area.

Easier said than done - I can hear you say!!

Re: play park
- Mary W (25th Aug 2011 - 20:07:29)

If the boys are abusive, call the police. They can't be allowed to get away with terrorising the youngsters.

Re: play park
- Jay (25th Aug 2011 - 21:46:33)

Bit unfair for all children over 12 to have to use the other equipment. There isn't much across the other side of the Rec and have you seen the basket ball pole?! Waste of space where it is. Other threads deal with the shortcomings of the skate park. Always used to be over 14 years and if there are no signs then you can't really blame them for using a new park - BUT I do not condone abusive language or bad behaviour.

As for CCTV - anyone know how the Petersfield webcams are funded? If we had something like that, we could all keep an eye on the play park and name and shame the dog owners who don't clear up whilst we're at it. Actually, scrap that - too many weirdos around aren't there who would use the cameras for other purposes.

Best option must be then, to get Phase 2 for the older kids finished then they would have no need to go into the area for the smaller kids (if that IS what it is for).

Re: play park
- JG (26th Aug 2011 - 13:44:41)

Totally agree with Mary W....see my earlier post, this fab playpark definitely needs toilet facilities somewhere on the rec.
