Broadband Has Landed in Liphook
- Andy Woodage (29th May 2003 - 12:00:45)
I got my Broadband connection yesterday 28th May. What a difference it makes to home computing.
Was I the first in Liphook?
A great BIG thank you to Liphook.co.uk for activating the campaign that brought Broadband to Liphook. Without the campaign we would still be dialling up and waiting......................!

Hi Andy,
Thanks for posting here! We are very pleased that people are getting their connections active in Liphook.
Our connection went live on the 17th May 2003, but wasn't due until the 21st so that was a bit of a bonus.
Whilst the campaign is now over for Broadband, we hope that you will continue to use Liphook.co.uk

AT LAST! - my computer now has broadband and what a difference.
I also find that my monthly ISP charges are now less than they were!
Thanks to all who assisted with the campaign.
Any person reading this message who has not yet obtained the Broadband service and is still hesitant do not dither any longer!
As a community we need this service to communicate and strengthen our ties.
Frank Cuthbert.

Just a quick update to this post! One of our sponsors will shortly be offering Broadband ADSL, with the emphasis on customer service and support - a far cry from what some other providers offer!
If anyone is interested in this, please get in touch (editor@liphook.co.uk) and I'd be happy to pass on your details, or give you more information when it becomes available to me.

Frank -
totally agree, and with Andy and Mark's earlier comments.
Managed to make the connection this morning without too much hassle - just forgot to look up the network login user name which arrived some time back!
The connection is showing at 576.0kbytes speed - which is a massive improvement opver 52K. Just like being back in my office with broadband.

Connected to PIPEX broadband last Friday evening, 4 days earlier than scheduled. I only ordered it late on the Monday evening. Five days from ordering to delivery.

Grahame -
Out of interest, what speed are you achieving? I'm finding the BT connection congested at times and a bit variable in delivery. I used PIPEX years ago and always found the service good.

Not sure which package you're on Freddie, we get well over 100k/sec all the time on our 1mb account we have with fast.co.uk (a sponsor of the website so please support them!).
I'd guess you're on the BT home page - before I moved to Liphook I got around 40k/sec on the 512 home package.

Mark -
Yes, we have BT500 - which gives us 576k bits per second - around half the speed you are achieving. Once we've completed out 12 month tie -n to BT, we'll definitely switch supplier.
brgds
