Nationwide closure protest vote - Nick Hancock (22nd Jun 2011 - 07:31:32)
I have just received my voting papers for the Nationwide BS AGM. It comes with a flyer rather ironically boasting "With no shareholders our only focus is you"!
The AGM is in London on 21st July. I can't be there but I do intend to register a protest against their branch closures by voting postally against all the proposed resolutions, including the reappointment of all the board members.
Is there anyone else out there willing to do the same? It's very rare that protests of this sort actually gather enough votes to change the outcome but who knows - most other members probably won't bother to vote. And in quoted companies a substantial protest vote against the board will make them take notice even when the actual result of the resolution is not affected.
There's not much point in protesting without telling them why, so a couple of weeks before the AGM I intend to get in touch with them to tell them what I am doing. Perhaps it is too late to reverse the branch closures but I would like them to realise that there is a price for treating their members in such a high-handed way.
Join me! There's a £1,000 prize draw and a 20p charitable donation for everyone who votes - they want to encourage us to vote so let's take them up on their offer!

yes i shall be voting against all resolutions as well.
Being an ex Portman building society member for over the last decade i am appalled by the way Nationwide are treating us. Promised at the time not to close any branches/agencies in rural areas. Which they kept to last year. Had to travel over 1`5 miles then now since coming here its Petersfield.
Lousy interest Rates, then they have the cheek to suggest where I / we should put our money.

I have just cut up my cards and sent my cheque book back in protest.

I have just voted against all options and I'm tempted to return their ironic flyer with a few of my own annotations.
Also interesting to learn Graham Beale (CEO) is on £650k!
Now all my Nationwide bonds mature at the end of the month I'm beginning to look elsewhere.
