Sudha - Gurkha
- Anne Heywood (21st Jun 2011 - 20:23:54)

Want you all to know that my husband and I took some friends to the Ghurka Chautari on Saturday night. The food was wonderful, service excellent and I made a point of introducing myself to Sudha as I've so often see her posts on this website. You should all know, those that have never met her, she is a very lovely, warm lady and the perfect hostess for the restaurant.

Thank you for a lovely evening - you can guarantee that it will be the first of many.

I whole-heartedly agree! We are 'regulars' and went along last Saturday night when Sudha was also there, it was lovely to see her as we have missed on on our last few visits. We had a wonderful evening and it was lovely to see the restaurant busy.

Hello Ladies,

We also discoverd that at the next table it was Christopher's birthday...so we toasted him too.We are certainly dependant on you to keep us going so please DO VISIT US.

We are regular Gurkha take away addicts, and yes the food and service are first class. It is always nice to give credit where it is due. Brilliant Resturant.

Where was everyone on last night? After a busy Friday evening,it was dead quiet at the Chautari last night....something happened somewhere?

I haven't been to the restaurant.

As I don't know what is good to order, can you give recommendations as to your favourite dishes? I am not too keen on lean meat (find chicken chunks a bit dry normally, although I do love meat generally).

Hi Mary,
We have 95 dishes to chooose from....you can see the menu either online on www.gurkhachautari.com or collect a TA menu from the Restaurant.
The descriptions are quite well worded and you can always ask the waiters for help in selecting what you want.
Having said that,my favourite starter is No 3 MISAYEKO KHAJA a platter of both meat and vegetable.
I always go for the No 43 KHASI KO MASU..authentic lamb curry ...juicy gravy to have with No 62 SETO BHAT..plain white Basmati rice so you can get the full flavour of the curry.
Most people order a side dish of No 58 PAHELO DAAL..lentils or No 57 HARIYO MIS MAS assorted vegetable..unless you are famished two people can share all this and it won't break your bank.
Hope you make it to 18,Station Road!
Sudha.

Thank you for the suggestions, we'll try and come in next week and have all those ideas. I suppose that is the reason we haven't been in before, just not quite sure what to have.

Too tired to go out tonight, so looked at your suggestions and we got a takeaway - all the suggestions you made. We particularly enjoyed the No 3 MISAYEKO KHAJA. What are the individual items in that? I recognise the bahjee (is that spelled right?) but liked the other sort of flattish pattie in that selection very much, as well. I'd like to be able to get those two items separately if possible. The price was extremely reasonable and thank you for the poppadums and the mint yogurt extra, which we didn't expect!

It was a very good meal, and one night when we aren't so tired we'll come and eat in the restaurant.

Hi Mary,
So glad you managed to get the Takeaway...AND that you liked it! Those flat pattie-like savouries with the No 3 Misayeko Khaja is actually a bit of No 2 ie Aloo Khaja which as it says on the description, grated potatoes, carrots, green peas and ginger made into a round ball and flattened and deep fried. We eat these as a snack with a tea or drinks.
I hope you will return for another T/A or a meal soon.Thank you for your kind compliments.
Sudha

Hi Jan,
So glad you also like the No 43.I hope you are having a great evening tonight.I am afraid I had to work this weekend and so am not at the Chautari.Mind you,Mani(my hubby) is actually in the country this month and since he is at the restaurant this evening he will bring me a No 43!
I hope to meet you one of these days!
Sudha.

The only slight criticism was that although we live nearby, the lentil dish and the starter was a bit on the cool side, a bit tepid. I wasn't sure about the best way to warm it up. Or maybe it isn't supposed to be piping hot - the lamb curry was absolutely fine.

Re: Sudha - Gurkha
- Sudha Rai (11th Jul 2011 - 19:15:39)

Hi Mary,
I am so sorry that your starter and lentil had cooled in transit. Microwaving for 10-20 seconds will not affect the taste of the food.
I hope that it will not happen again.
Sudha.

Trouble is, you can't put fopil dishes in microwave. I expect it will be fine next time.
