Fuel Prices
- Simon Coyte (20th Jun 2011 - 13:05:38)
Please sign up at the FairFuelUK Campaign to stop this fuel price madness. Oil goes up, petrol and diesel go up at the pump. Oil falls, and the prices that we pay hardly move! Not fair!
Motorists and businesses in the UK pay some of the highest fuel taxes in the world. Not fair!
FairFuelUK is leading the fight to get a better deal on petrol and diesel prices. They helped stop the massive 5 p per litre that was planned in the Budget for April.
Now, they are working harder than ever in Parliament and in the media to get a better deal on petrol and diesel. Every person that puts their name to the campaign makes them stronger and increases their ability to get a result.
I’ve just signed up on their website to add my support. They are backed by the RAC and by the two bodies that represent the nation’s road freight companies. If you are as upset and angry about the cost of filling up, please join me and support the campaign. Will you add your support? It only takes about 10 seconds at fairfueluk.com/...
Every single ‘sign up’ really helps…..
Thanks so much, together we can make a difference!

Me too.
Just to let you know that the cheapest I've found in the last few weeks was Morrisons at Horndean.

As OAPs it is getting very difficult to keep up with rising prices, my pension does not rise by anything like the cost of living, I suppose eventually we will run out of cash but does the goverment care - I doubt it.

What do you think is unfair? Where do you think your fuel taxes go? What services would you like the government to cut to pay for the fuel tax reduction? NHS? Schools?
Put a sock in it, moaners. If petrol and diesel were free you'd still complain about something like the smell or the inconvenience of having to go to a filling station or some other nonsense.
PS I don't like paying high fuel costs as much as anyone else.

Stephen
No its not just tax, its the price relevent to fuel costs in other countries. Personally I would reduce tax on fuel and increase income tax so that we who are earning, and able to pay tax rather than increasing fuel duty which puts up the cost of transport, and consequently the price of all goods you buy, as nearly all the goods in shops today have got there by road transport.

Stephen,
Why should fuel prices rise unchecked by the consumer?
As a single income family the huge rise in fuel prices has meant that my family now no longer can enjoy days out or even meals out at the Anchor. I've also had to move jobs as the cost of getting there was becoming too much for my delicate budget.
I've lived overseas for many years and UK fuel price increases are commonly discussed...prices go up as oil prices rise but they rarely go down by the same margin when prices drop.
Shouldn't we question this?
Our local providers seem to be several pence more expensive than others 10 miles down the road. Should there be a national price like in a lot of countries I've lived in? If it costs more to deliver to some remote areas (Liphook?) then it should be averaged out across the country.
What frustrates people the most is that the oil companies still make billions and we seem to be funding disaters like BP.
If you don't question it, oil companies assume you don't mind.
I'm glad your pocket can take it...want to take my kids out in the summer? They are polite and well behaved (honest).

I agree just because some people in the south are well able to afford high prices, is no justification just to think everyone will carry on paying them. The cost of everything including fuel bills will soon go up again, and those on fixed incomes will suffer. There are not enough well paid jobs around, and the cost of fuel to get to work and back is a factor. I have noticed more and more people queing for bargains, and spending less in the shops. Because fresh fruit is so expensive, people are buyig tinned instead. I have also noticed people buying less meat. Hopefully the economy will not go into the kinds of problem they have i greece.

Stephen D - Your comments about paying 80% tax on petrol just show what a blinkered world you live in.
Put the tax on something that is not necessary for living, (beer, cigarettes, i-pads, mobile phones etc). People living in small villages have very little choice - they have to use their cars if they are unable to walk distances. You will find out when you get older that not having a choice to work means you are stuck on a diminishing income. Tell me why the motorist has to pay for the NHS?
