LiDBA bike ride
- Editor (12th Jun 2011 - 11:46:34)

Just a brief update of the ride so far.

The continuous drizzle did not seem to deter the keen riders attending todays charity ride.

The first rider back, Mark, completed the course in 1hr 3 mins, which considering the poor weather and slippery road conditions is an amazing time.

The first lady rider back was Emily. She had never ridden in the LiDBA bike ride before. She completed the course in 1hr 7 mins, just 4 minutes behind the fastest rider. I believe that might be the nearest a lady rider has ever been to the first rider back.

Congratulations to all the riders who took part today, last year the ride raised nearly £65,000 for local charities and causes, lets see if they can smash that this year. So, if you have sponsored a rider please be generous and increase your money to cover the poor conditions that they have braved today.

Even the junior ride was well attended with one young lad completing the course on the Bohunt field using a unicycle !

More information and some pictures on www.lidba.co.uk tomorrow.

Well done to you all.

Well done to everyone, the weather was horrible.

I'd especially like to thank all the car/van/lorry drivers who treated the riders with respect and only overtook safely and didn't drive too close, there were several young riders out there and they seem to have all returned in one piece.

To the idiots who overtook me on a blind bend when I warned you there was another idiot overtaking cyclists on the other side...you were lucky you didn't kill anyone! Oh and the limit is 30!...wish I'd noted his/her number plate.

And a big thank you to all those marshalling the ride who had to stand out in the pouring rain for however many hours!
Lovely atmosphere fellow Liphookians on the ride again :-)

Hi there,

Just a quick note to say thanks so much to all the marshalls and anyone else involved with the bike ride yesterday, it was really well organised and enjoyable - despite the mildly damp conditions....!!! Apparently it was the first time it had ever rained?! I was over the moon to be first lady back, it was hard work in the rain!

Thanks again, I'll be back next year!

Some facts and figures for the ride....

There were 1,136 riders on the main 25 mile ride and 170 junior riders on the Bohunt field. A total of 1,306.

58 charities had their own teams riding this year.

So despite the terrible weather an excellent turnout of brave riders both young and old.

Hi all I want to say a huge well done to everyone who completed the course.

And a huge thank you to marshalls on the day, for all your help.

It started as a lovely ride even with the drizzle but unfortunately mine and my uncles ride was cut short after a caravan knocked him off his bike and then continued to drive on, he is fine with just a few cuts to his legs but was shaken.

I would like to say a personal thank you to the lovely lad on the ride who attempted to stop the vehicle, although his attempt did not work he gave a fantastic description of the car and caravan and took the number plate. So huge thank you. (if you know him please can you let me know so I can personally thank him)

For anyone who ever thought they'd like to try LiDBA but were wary of what is involved...feast your eyes!

What an extraordinary piece of film. All the joy of doing LiDBA without the hard work. Excellent film, well done!

It was the first time it consistently poured with rain in the 21 years we have been holding the Bike Ride.
As a helper, I have had sunstroke, near hypothermia, but not continuous drenching! Apologies to the guy who registered on the day and as he was registering, the entire contents of the roof of our gazebo descended on him and yet he continued to smile and did the ride (already very wet!) Also well done to the younger ones who completed their 25 miles and came in blue!!

Great video - I spotted my husband and daughter in it! Well done everyone who organised and took part.
