New Park??
- Clare (6th Jun 2011 - 13:24:36)

I read on another thread there maybe a new park? I visited Liphook a couple of weeks ago (we're moving in over the summer) and was REALLY disappointed with the state of the play area at the rec. Where I live now (Portsmouth) there are lots of parks in fabulous condition so I know it can be done and maintained. Is there a committee leading the charge, is fundraising happening etc? Happy to help out if possible.

Don't worry, the new park is actually being put in at the end of June and into July, so will be open for the summer hols.

The old one is being ripped out - we all agree it's about time. It took a lot of hard work by a group of local people to push this through, so well done to them and all their efforts.

Thanks sarah! yes, after a long campaign by myself and Bonnie and other wonderful ladies (and bon's hubby) we have a new park coming! the old one will be ripped out on 22nd June (from the last conversation i had with the parish clerk). the new one will be in by the end of July though it could stretch to a 6 week duration.

There will be a toddler section at the top with swings, slide, bouncers and more, a older area at the bottom with basket swing, large swings, climbing frame adventure trail etc.

Fingers crossed there will also be some 'trained' locals who will be putting in some willow whips to create a nice natural tunnel.

Can't wait - there is also a 'grand opening' though the date for this will be decided when the actual finish date is known.

My hope is with the new play park we will inspire pride of ownership and stop the vandalism and misuse of the park. No more broken bottles and litter dumped - the inspiration for my first petition some 3 years ago.

After this play park I aim to get a group together to raise money for the 'phase 2' on the other side of the park. I would also like to ask the parish council for some picnic benches at the top of the hill under the tree. If you would like to join me in fundraising let me know - liphookplaypark@hotmail.co.uk!

I will keep you informed as I hear anymore news!

Ladies, this sounds marvellous and I am thrilled. Thank you from me too for what sounds like a fairly long hard slog. I've put the email address into my contacts list and as soon as we're in the new house I'll get in touch to see if I can be of any assistance.

hi!

Just thought i would keep you informed.

I spoke to the Parish Clerk recently and found out that the play park has been slightly delayed due to circumstances beyond their control, it will now start on 4th July. Don't groan or despair! This late start shouldn't affect the end date! They are still aiming for an end of July finish date with a Grand opening too!

as soon as i know anything i'll stick it on here!

Helen

Where exactly is it? At Radford Park? Or near the library?
