Deer
- Yellow Bannanna Adrian (26th Feb 2020 - 16:04:58)

Do we have too many deer in the area, I often see them early in the morning and today actually collided with one in my car.
Perhaps there needs to be a limited cull to bring the numbers down as they have no natural predators in the ecosystem.
It is quite dangerous if you hit them to yourself and other road users, not to mention the cost of damage to your vehicle.

Deer are being pushed towards the roads because of all the houses that are being built in the countryside in the area.

Don’t agree with this at all, in my opinion it as cruel and they are a living creature. But as I said that’s just my opinion.

We live in the countryside going to get wildlife
Glad to see it

Predator hmm wolf why not somebody wanted beaver in radford how about wolves of longmoor

Now pigeons are a plague shoot as many of those that you want

The more we encrouch on their range the more we will come into contact with them

Deer lived where the houses are being built, what do you expect. Use common sense, slow down in known wildlife areas and be aware of your surroundings.

Drive more slowly in the country lanes then you will stop in time.

Adrian, I’m actually really shocked at this post. I have nothing more to say really, it isn’t a thing that needs discussing in civilised society (particularly in a rural area where deer naturally live). It sometimes feels like the world has gone a bit mad!

Adrian

I take it you are not used to driving in rural areas where there is a higher risk of deer running into the road. You need to be careful particularly in the early morning or early evening. Also, if you see one deer there is likely to be another following. Sometimes unfortunately an accident can't be avoided but I don't think the local wildlife need to be culled merely to facilitate your journey - rather you should drive more carefully.

I suspect Adrian isn't getting enough attention on his train / banana threads, so has decided to take another approach to get the reaction he wants.

If you get on the A3 from Liphook to Guildford it looks like a killing field.
some times you cant help hitting the wild life , all we can say is try and keep an eye out and slow down .

Re: Deer

Another contentious area of debate? There are lots of Deer in the area of several types. The Deers Hut pub name should give a clue as to their numbers. In medieval times royalty would hunt them in the surrounding area due to their numbers. I can only endorse a "be prepared" message to drivers. They run out fast and straight when crossing the road. At all costs avoid swerving. Modern cars may stop in time but if not, an injured or dead deer is better than the human alternative (although some on this forum may disagree). On the stretch of Longmoor Road road leading from the Oak Park development to the A3 there have been at least 2 fatalities in the last 25 years caused by drivers swerving to avoid deer, going off the road, and hitting a tree. I'm also aware of several deer being hit with only car damage on the same stretch. Observe the deer warning signs and above all drive with the possibility in your mind of deer running out.

Too many cars, not too many deer. The internet has some benefits but Adrian's views unfortunately aren't one of them

Re: Deer
- er (27th Feb 2020 - 12:08:48)

It's a miracle that they've survived when all the other big roaming wildlife has been systematically killed off by man. We probably only have any deer left because the old kings of England liked to hunt them in reserves like the New Forest or Richmond Park (something to thank the French for!) so they were considered useful, unlike bears or wolves etc. I think rather than killing them for hitting cars, we should build them animal flyovers to cross the A3 safe from Adrian!

Hey you lot, don't feed the Troll. Adrian will be having a right laugh at all the reaction to his inflammatory post. He is just attention seeking! JUST IGNORE HIM!

While we're on the subject, there are some heavily pregnant does around Iron Hill. Give them a break and stop your dogs chasing them - and be ready for fawns that can't escape dogs either
