The Roundabout cottage
- Robert Hodges (24th May 2011 - 12:40:13)

I was very interested in reading about Boris Karloff living at The Roundabout because my great uncle Frank Hodges and his wife Annie sold it to him! They had moved there when Frank's London gunmaking business had gone bust and I think he and his wife worked in the local sweet shop. This must be in the 1920s or 30s - has anyone got older relatives who might have any pre-Karloff memories of the Hodges family or where the sweet shop was? Even just a date when Boris moved in would be useful. Thanks, Robert.

The sweet shop would almost certainly have been Bramshott Stores. The shop was a general grocers, off licence/tobacconist/sweet shop and post office, in three separate sections each with its own counter. It is the building that has since been converted into flats, a bit further up Tunbridge Lane before you get to The Hollow, on the left as you go away from Liphook. Next door was an old bakery, pulled down to make way for new housing. The Karloff's must have moved in around 1966 but I can't remember exactly.
