If you think the school traffic is bad now...
- Mary (9th Jan 2020 - 09:27:39)
... Wait until the station bridge is closed and it's all routed round the square and down Haslemere Road.
Does anyone know what the latest notice of the bridge says about gas works? I was driving past and couldn't read it.
The nightmare that is about to come.

I was hoping it would be traffic lighted and not closed completely.

Editor are these the same roadworks as the gas ones where they advertise closing the road for ‘aporox 4 weeks’? The description of the works above just seems to suggest pot hole repairs which do need doing also.

ED, I don't think you've looked at the correct one, this is also from the One Network site:
Information for Road Users
Location:
Midhurst Road, Liphook, Hampshire
Traffic lights, etc: Road closure
We’ll be working in Midhurst Road from Monday 13 January for approximately four weeks.
To ensure everyone’s safety, we’ll need to temporarily close Midhurst Road between its junction with Newtown Road and the railway bridge.
A signed diversion will be in place via the A3, A272 and the B2070.

Is this the work to enable the golf buggies to cross the road via a tunnel?

The railway bridge will be closed from Monday and traffic will not be able to access Midhurst Road for the bit of road between Station Rd to nearly Chiltley Way. I believe there will be access to the houses on that stretch. I phoned the number on the Notice (0800 912 1700] and a man from the gas company phoned back this morning. I asked if there were going to be traffic lights and he said no, because “there will be a trench in the road”. They hope it will not take as long as the four weeks stated on the Notice. So do I!!

Should the appropriate authorities consider making Devil’s Lane one way for the duration of the works. Preferably for traffic heading away from Haslemere road, as the junction of Haslemere road and Highfield road is dangerous for vehicles turning right from Haslemere road into Highfield road.

Just got a reply about the road closure. Looks like it will be permanently closed for 4 weeks, with only pedestrian access. Living in Gunns Farm, this is very annoying.
| | Good afternoon
Thank you for your enquiry
In response to your question about the road closure on midhurst road we will be closing the road from the bridge to Newtown road for 4 weeks. This closure will be a 24 hour closure with access for pedestrians.
I can only apologise if the causes any inconvenience and do fell free to contact me with any further questions.
Many thanks

Jeez. What a joke!
I hope none of us on that side of the railway line need to call on the emergency services in the next 4 weeks!

On the way to the station this evening about 5pm on foot I saw a woman in a van or 4x4 move the bollards drive through and then replace the bollards and continue over the bridge.

Yellow Banana Adrian, maybe he/she lived just over the bridge, benefit of the doubt! The road closure would have been better if they had done the roadworks in the Spring/Summer when the mornings and evenings are light!

Why on earth would the day length have made a difference?

SR, because if one is not familiar with Highfield Lane it would be easier to see - potholes for one!

Wendy
If a road is closed you don't use it, it's quite simple.
Enough said.

I never picked up the closure on my Garmin or Google Maps or Waze, so went there at 9:15am-ish this morning (Wed 15 Jan) to have a check to see if I can report it on Waze. However the road was clear with no signs indicating closure. Very confused right now.

Yellow Bananna Adrian, did it not cross your mind that the vehicle in question was probably a resident that lives just over the railway bridge - seeing as the driver put the bollards back says it all - maybe you can`t see that! In fact I know a family who live there with a van. Maybe you didn`t realise either that residents have access to their properties. Enough said from me too!

Latest News
The gas pipe the reason for the road closure is not actually on the bridge, it is under the railway line below....
More news to follow.

Looks like they have changed their plans. The roadworks will now be from 30th January until 12th February and they will have traffic lights. That’s better news.
