Hampshire County Council Concessionary Travel
- boris (13th May 2011 - 00:44:39)
The Hampshire County Council Concessionary Travel Application Form advising of the change in the administration of the scheme, mentions changes in the scheme and offers various bus pass and voucher concessions. No mention of Senior Citizen Rail cards.
However, in response to a questions raised at the last Parish Council meeting on the 18th April in regard to how changes in the system would effect the Parish Council, it is stated that application forms would be available at the Parish Council offices, and that Senior Citizens over 60 years of age can apply for Senior Rail Cards.
Clarification please.

Hello Boris.
Well, the new Parish Council will be having it's first meeting on Monday.
If you would like to come and ask for clarification that would be great, however, if you cannot make Monday evening I can print out your query and pass it on to the relevant person. I imagine the department concerned will be EHDC?
My e-mail is purplecurly@hotmail.co.uk if you put your name and query I will ensure it gets passed on.
As long as the Editor agrees, I intend to use this site to receive and pass on information / questions / complaints / compliments! regarding Parish issues - so this is a good starting point.
Generally, if you want an issue put on the 'Agenda' it needs to be received about a week before the meeting, but questions can always be slotted in if needs be (I think!)
kind regards
Dawn

Yes senior citizens can apply for Senior Railcards but they have to be paid for. £26 for a year gives you a 1/3 of most standard rail fares. I used the last of my tokens to buy one.

Hi Dawn,
Yes I would like you to seek clarification please. I am aware, as Jaybee points out, that the rail Cards can be purchased at £26 from the Railways,
In the past these could be obtained in exchange for a voucher issued by the Council. The Hampshire County Council Concessionary Travel letter indicates that only bus passes are now available, or travel vouchers, but the Parish Council Minutes indicate that the Senior Citizen Rail Card scheme is still available from the Council.
unless this is incorrect reporting, as there is also an article in the Minutes that refers to Robin Day and the Lunch Club at the Peak Centre. I thought the newely formed Lunch Club was at the Millenium Centre, but I might be wrong.

Boris.Yes you are quite right the Peak Centre and the Lunch Club are two seperate organisations and not as the minutes reported. The Lunch Club operates on Wednesdays at the Millenium Hall but the Peak Day Centre is open Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10a.m. - 3p.m. giving elderly Clients a full day of Company and Care with Coffee and Biscuits on arrival and a freshly cooked lunch followed by tea and cakes in the afternoon at a cost of £8 per day so it is run entirely differently from the Lunch Club. Anyone wishing to come along please contact the Peak Day Centre,at Midhurst Road, Liphook on 01428-724941

Boris. You must realize that Bramshott & Liphook Parish Council is slightly different from the one you run in London. I am told they try their best.

H i there to dispel any confusion the element of the Rail card wass subsidised by EHDC and has now been withdrawn, on grounds of cost, and the scheme is now the National Concessionary BUS Pass Scheme, which applies to bus travel only. I believe residents can still apply at the parish office, or they can apply on line also. There have been letters written by Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council, to protest at the withdrawal of the rail element concession but I have not heard anything positive that the travel tokens or railcard subsidy will be restored. The scheme is now administered by Hampshire County Council at Winchester. The staff at the Parish Office will be more that happy to help also with information in this regard. Hope this helps.

Sorry about the poor spelling in my previous post I hope that it is understandable that the travel token and rail subsidy has been withdrawn from the concessionary Travel scheme.
