Good Result for Liphook
- helen (9th May 2011 - 22:01:15)

I am really pleased that a lot of new people have been elected to our Parish Council, and hope we can all move on now without the past issues being raised, and hope that the main topics will be finding solutions to local problems at parish level ,not have resources both manpower and financial resources, sidetracked into dealing with more grievances. I have heard that a certain District lady Councillor was at the polling station on Thursday, church centre, and was really bad mouthing her opponents. I hope she now desists as she is also a parish councillor and this can cause bad feeling between councillors, and is not it is not the spirit of democracy .

Whilst broadly in agreement with the above sentiment, I feel that there are two issues from the past that require re-examination.

So I ask the new council :

Why is it right to pay compensation to an employee for comments made by an individual from funds held on behalf of the parishioners rather than funds of that individual?

Why is it right to take substantial sums of money from two voluntary organisations that provide fantastic opportunities and experiences open to the whole of Liphook's youngsters?

I am quite passionate about both of these issues and it would be quite wrong to close the book.

Dear Mike,

Although the first meeting of the newly formed Parish Council will probably be about 'form filling' etc, if you feel strongly about an issue it is important to make sure it is put on the agenda and properly minuted / recorded.

Please either drop me, or the parish office, an line stating the questions you would like to be answered. If it is too late for this Mondays meeting, it can be put on the agenda for the next one.

If you give me your details I will contact you to let you know when your query is to be discussed so you can come along.

Not very many people like to attend formal meetings as they can be boring and/or intimidating. I feel really strongly that local people should be able to submit their opinions via e-mail etc to their Councillors and that these questions should be dealt with properly and given the diligence they deserve.

my email is purplecurly@hotmail.co.uk. I look forward to hearing from you and any other person who has an issue they would like the Parish Council to address.

Is there any way that the accomplisments of the last parish council over their 4 year period could be given to the people of the parish.?
How much money they were allocated to spend in that period.?
A detailed breakdown of how the money was spent.?
Who the Parish Council are answerable to.?
Who the Parish Clerk is answerable to.?
Armed with this information perhaps those people in the Parish who are interested in what goes on in our Parish would have a much happier relationship with our new council and give closure to all previous goings on.

Please send me your name and details with specific questions listed so I can submit them for the next meeting.

I wish to encourage members of the public to ask questions of the council and encourage the council to take seriously questions put forward by parishioners.

If we are to see any sort of 'turnaround' we need public support, so I hope that if you receive answers to your questions and/or queries that you will make public that you have received a helpful service from the people you have elected.
