Brown water
- Jottie (7th Apr 2005 - 07:36:00)

Hi can anyone help,

Have only moved to Liphook recently and for the 6th time since have turned on my taps to see brown sludgy water flowing from them! Combined with frequent power cuts am beginning to think I have moved to a third world country!? What is the problem here?

Thanks

You have indeed moved to utility hell. Bit like Hell's Kitchen but without the swearing unless it really gets to you.

The brown water is caused when the main supply into Liphook fails and they use a reverse flow technique to make sure that we get some water. I have been assured that the brown residue is not harmful but you won't get me brushing my teeth in it! As for the electricity it's not the fault of our supply company but the Squirrals - yes those little grey critters! Apparantly they cause some sort of mischief at the sub station, some kind of "nut" house probably the rodent equivalent of a "crack" house where they get a bit over excited and damage the long stringy electric things - cables!

Our Parish Council have taken up the cause and have been fighting the "BIG" boys and there has been a big improvement over what it has been like. Used to lose power at least twice a week where I am.

It's all due to the rapid expansion of the village to a small town without any increase in the infrastructure.

Bear with it cause Liphook is a great place to live with fantastic people.

Thanks Nige - I am with you about brushing my teeth in it and having accidently consumed some it certainly aint Evian! We are definitely starring in a spin off of hells kitchen in our house complete with language as to top it all off my husband has to commute into London everyday and I know the train service is dear to many hearts on this site!

Hey no complaints otherwise...

cheers

Jottie,

After several years doing the journey i have hung up my briefcase to run my own business. The feeling of liberation as I burnt my SWT timetable. It's amazing that I can now turn up for events on time and not have to say, "Sorry I'm late - it's the trains again!"

Take care,

Nige

You've got to love the Evil Empires new housing.

As for the brown water, buy a Britta water filter, that seems to sort it out.
