A short note of thanks, written in haste, for all those who voted for me at last week's election for the Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council, the results of which have just been published on this site.
I should also like to thank those special friends who helped me to distribute my flyer to most, if not all, of your houses. I now have an increased respect for our postmen and women who daily struggle with letter boxes with springs and brushes not to mention inquisitive dogs.
I fully intend to persue those issues which I identified in my election manifesto and look forward to working with the new council when it meets for the first time on Monday 16th May at 8.00pm. As always the public are invited to attend.
My sincere thanks for your support
Paul Robinson

Re: Results?
- Neil (11th May 2011 - 19:00:51)
Just a thought for future elections, should they run on the same night as district. I think this could be unfair on the independents as it looks like the runners for district got the same amount of votes for both destrict and parish and parish electtions are suppose to be non political.
Also can some please confirm, are all the flyers at the cost of the person standing or as I believe an expense that can be claimed back, so in short we are paying for them.
Any way just a thought and well done to all and if flyers are paid back thanks to those who saved me money.

Thank you Neil for your good wishes on the recent results of the election for the Parish Council. In answer to your questions I can assure you that the flyers produced by the prospective candidates were indeed produced and printed entirely at the cost of the individuals and this cannot and will not be paid by the ratepayers.
The more lavish newspaper type flyers produced by the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats are paid for by their respective Central Offices and not by either the Parish or District Councils.
The last time there was a separate Parish Council election it cost an absolute fortune and the turn out was less than 15%, last week's Parish Council election saw a turn out of just over 44% which was better than the national average of 42% simply because people made the effort to vote for the District Council election and the referendum on Alternative Voting.
I expect that you already know that voting in Australia is mandatory and perhaps that is why AV works over there, although I hear that they are currently reconsidering this!
