Just ridiculous
- Sarah (5th May 2011 - 15:45:46)

Perhaps after today when these elections are out of the way we will be rid of all these ridiculous accusatory threads about various councillors.

As someone who knows none of these people personally and who, perhaps foolishly, thought talkback might be a good place to find out more about who I may be voting for (and I doubt I am the only one), I just find this whole situation very childish.

Talkback could be a great resource for debate and information about whats going on in the local council and the views of those standing for election but all I seem to find from browsing these threads is a load of childish squabbling and petty arguments.

I have no idea who is right or wrong in this whole Nigel Newman debacle - perhaps it is a credit to him that he's refrained from indulging in this public slanging match. And perhaps those who have engaged in it ought to think twice in future before making unfounded accusations and arguing the toss on here because it just comes accross so juvenile - God help us with all this pettyness on our council. Maybe instead of publically arguing about these things and demanding people are voted off the council you should try being adults about all this and sorting out these problems maturely around a table rather than over the internet. As presumably you are all the for the same reason: to try and do whats best for Liphook - it is a voluntary position after all.

And in future perhaps a few updates about the positive work the council is doing might be more worthwhile to keep Liphook updated via talkback.

Just a suggestion..

Please please let there be an end to all the wrangling. Please let us have a council that really wants to support the people of Bramshott and Liphook. Please could we know the truth for a change.

I agree I only go on this site when I need some local advice on things, recently I needed to find a spray tan centre and Glynes really heped me out. From what I have read there seems to be a little gang of people that hang out on this website and throw insults at each other and their friends. I know that politics is important to some people in Liphook but the vast majority of people that I know in Liphook have no idea of the silly political arguments that take place on this site and when I talk to them about it they laugh, so lets just start using this forum for what it should be for which is connecting people in a positive way. I think it is a terrible reflection of Liphook to any people who have just moved here from another town or village so please can

I totally agree that a number of the 'Parish Council' threads seem to have become a forum for personal differences which is a pity. It is interesting to note though that those who most object to the criticism of the current PC admit to either not knowing any of the people involved or have no interest in the 'silly political arguments'. There are some of us who believe that there is something fundamentally worng with the current set up and have to ask why one of the best regarded councillors has resigned (see thread on this site). It will be interesting to see the results of the election but it will be a great shame if indifference wins.

liz with a small L you're doing it again.

Re: Just ridiculous
- liz (7th May 2011 - 11:52:33)

Liz with a large L. Doing what, exactly, again? Maybe daring to suggest that all at the Parish Council may not be exactly as it should be? This is not 'silly' political gossip it is what I have heard personally from a number of serving councillors.

Re: Just ridiculous
- Michael (7th May 2011 - 15:17:51)

liz (small L)

Now i understand why your comments are sometimes not nice if you are personally friendly with a number of serving councilors.

Re: Just ridiculous
- liz (8th May 2011 - 15:09:31)

Michael. If you look properly I think you will find that I have not made any 'not nice' comments and certainly not against individuals. I am critical of the Parish Council but thankfully we live in a democracy. I know a number of the Parish Councillors simply from having lived in the area a long time and none are close personal friends (or otherwise). I also think I have enough brain cells (many would disagree!) to make up my own mind on issues rather than be spoon fed. I find the undercurrent of your remarks slightly disconcerting.

Re: Just ridiculous

And so it goes on! It really is such a shame that this forum is under some kind of occupation by a small group of people that no matter how hard you try to make it a pleasant and rational place to socialise via the internet with the comunity of Liphook they are hellbent on turning every thread into a game of point scoring. This thread has now been infected by the curse and not long this infection will spread into every corner of this forum. You are so very passionate, but this passion is probably better implemented somewhere a little bit more substantial rather than on an internet forum. If you are trying to have an impact and change Liphook for the better, I think it is fair to say you are spending far to long in cyberspace and reality is missing your sharp witt, your evocative words and impassioned dialogue. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE JUST STOP ALL THIS NONSENSE AND TALK TO EACH OTHER IN PERSON ABOUT THESE THINGS THAT BORE US SO MUCH!!!!!

- Eneida (9th May 2011 - 11:38:56)

Liz you seem to be spending much more time on this site than liz, who's been a valuable and sensible contributor for many years.

Why do you think you have the right to dictate what should/shouldn't be discussed here?? Surely there's room for many different topics and you're not obliged to read any threads that bore you.

Perhaps YOU should give it a rest because, quite frankly, you're beginning to sound like a bully!!

- Sumi Olson (9th May 2011 - 16:04:15)

Sarah,
I read your post with complete sympathy and agreed with you heartily. Alas, hopes dashed even by the end of the page.

It would be nice not to have a thread on this website about the PC that doesn't end in an acrimonious wrangle, but never mind.

Must accept that if one doesn't have a bad word to say about the PC and it's team, one is going to be shouted down and accused of censorship...

Another vindication to those to tell me that they've stopped visiting this site because they are tired of "reading the negativity and clique-driven posts"...

Re: Just ridiculous
- liz (9th May 2011 - 16:05:01)

Liz

I eagerly await you new thread for its scintillating wit and fund of new ideas!

That said, the Parish Council results were quite interesting....... ;)

Re: Just ridiculous
- liz (9th May 2011 - 16:26:24)

P.S. I do not belong to a clique - or if I do perhaps someone can let me know which one! I think those of us who take care not to make personal attacks on this website get bundled in with those who do.

There were some concerns about the Parish Council and people are justified in voicing those concerns (excluding the personal attacks). It is not petty, unjustified, silly or negative to question what decisions are being made on your behalf or how your money is being spent. There is some new blood in the Council now and hopefully that will be for the better.

Re: Just ridiculous
- Liz (9th May 2011 - 16:31:00)

liz I was not aiming my comments at you personally it was just a general comment about the whole situation the way everything always ends up in an argument about the council, so I'm sorry if you felt like it was about you. Also I seem to have upset Eneida so I'm sorry if she is upset too. Can we as I said in my last post just put this to bed and all get along, seeing as I do not know either of you it would be a shame to fall out over something so petty.
Liz

Re: Just ridiculous
- liz (9th May 2011 - 16:44:07)

I have not fallen out with anyone and the PC discussions (excluding the personal attacks) are not petty (see my previous post).

Re: Just ridiculous

Ok
