New Councillors and exempt business
- Alan (28th Apr 2011 - 11:39:33)

It will be very interesting to see how the new councillors get on with the strictly imposed secrecy when 'exempt business' is brought up at council meetings.

I would hope that there will be enough new blood on the council for them to be able to control what is designated 'exempt' and hence totally secret.

As parishioners we should not expect any business of the Parish Council to be secret from us, including salaries and any payments to staff, as they are OUR staff - surely.

Effectively we should be treated as shareholders NOT as if we intend a hostile takeover at any moment.

So, all you new candidates and hopefully new councillors please please push for much less secrecy in the Parish, question why ANY business should be exempt.

But, be careful what you sign when you become a councillor, because you find that they will effectively gag you.

Thanks for that Alan. It is the secret or "Exempt" meetings of this Council that is bringing the Council, as a whole, into disrepute, When people are sick enough to do evil deeds they always do them in private, behind closed doors.
The Parish Clerk, Mr Tony Groves may have a lot of questions to answer in open forum if enough good and honest Councilors’ are elected. No doubt they will instigate a full enquiry as to his litigious behavior which has caused many a good man and woman to resign their positions as did the latest Cllr Philip Jordan. The actions Groves has taken in recent years needs to be examined as he appears to operate outside his remit.
