Tunnel Walk Through
- Diana (20th Apr 2011 - 21:41:00)

Hi,
has any one managed to get tickets for the walk through the tunnel on 14th May. I have been trying all day and even have trouble getting the site up. Is it just me?

We had a similar post a few minutes later from Tracey H

"Has anyone actually managed to book tickets for the tunnel walk-through on the official website today? I have tried countless times only for the site to time out. It is incredibly slow and then just pegs out on the 'book park and ride' choice page. Is there any other way of getting tickets?"

Such a slow site took me over five painstaking hours to get my tickets.

Diana,
You are not alone! I have also been trying all day - from different laptops, different networks and still the website does not seem to be letting me in. I can get as far as trying to choose a pick-up location for park and ride, and then, nothing happens and it times out.

I wonder what happens if you ring the mobile no. on the webpage? Maybe worth getting 10+ together to do it that way instead?

Tracey

Hah - whilst waiting for the tunnel website to load each page, I am flicking back to the talkback page and up pops this thread. It's still S L O W at 10.50pm and I haven't got any tickets yet!

11.10pm - internet explorer still unable to display the page where you actually need to book the tickets. All this waiting around brings back bad memories of sitting in the queue all the way to the Hindhead traffic lights every day (except I was unable then to go off and make a cup of tea or pinch the children's wine gums to keep me occupied). If I don't give up now, I'll be too large to fit through the portal if I ever get a ticket!

11.55pm and I finally got the tickets!

Useful tip - I couldn't get tickets with a park and ride at Bohunt School but did manage to get them from Woolmer Hill School. If you are able to drive to another pick up point, you may have more success.

Also, don't rush the site - after inputting each piece of information wait for the site to process it before moving on to the next.

If patience is a virtue then I am indeed a virtuous woman (apart from eating all the wine gums from the kids' sweetie tin)!

I managed to get them first thing yesterday morning but seems I was one of the few who got straight through

I had little time yesterday to chase the tunnel tickets but today they are all sold. This is very disappointing - perhaps the organisers would consider a second event as they have obviously underestimated the level of interest.

Oh dear, I have missed the boat! I tried and tried but no luck perhaps they should have limited the tickets to local people only, who have had to put up with the upheavel. A second date would be a good idea and they perhaps should be offered to those who registered interest and didn't get tickets.

I have never written an email/letter of complaint in my life, but was driven to it over this debacle ( maybe I'm getting to that age)

This whole thing had the whiff of c**k up about it since i started getting emails from Caroline White apologising for the delay in the ticketing website announcement. It seemed who ever was organising it completely underestimated the interest that would be shown.

I urge anyone dissapointed to email c.white@surreycc.gov.uk and tell her.

If the day is as shambolic as the website, then i pity the people who got them. Good luck and take provisions.

Could I add a footnote to this discussion? I, too, was trying all day from 10 am on the 20th, to buy tickets, as the walk through coincides with our daughter's birthday. As she lives with her husband and two little boys, off The Avenue, we tried to leave from Liphook, but kept being logged out. I left a message for Caroline White, asking if the times could be extended, and one of her colleagues returned my call. She explained that the day had been governed by the Construction Company. If it is of any consolation, even the Hindhead Together team had to go through the same process, experiencing the same problems as us.

In the end, we returned from baby sitting at midnight, and after half an hour I was able to log on and managed to get the last 6 tickets from the National Trust Car Park at Hindhead.

I am on the Bramshott Open Gardens Committee, and the gardens are open again next year. Perhaps we should open the booking now!

Congratulations: A most successful day was enjoyed by the Liphook 2.20 pm group. Friendly casual reception at Bohunt, pleasant bus trip to the Southern end of the tunnel. Lots of time to take photographs etc. no hassles, stroll through tunnel at ones own pace, no regimentation, more time for photographs at Northern end. Then trip back by bus through South Tunnel. Congratulations and a big thank you to the organisers

Nice day, good friendly reception by Bohunt students, easy trip to the southern end and a pleasant walk through with plenty of Balfour contrunction chaps on hand to answer the technical questions arising from our group. Well done on the day.
