Conveyancing Solicitor
- Neil (19th Apr 2011 - 08:54:02)
I am currently trying to sell my house and need to find a Conveyancing Solicitor, I have had such a massive difference in quotes from £300 - £1000 both +VAT.
I don't need anything on the buying side so it should be a easy transaction.
I would welcome any good feedback of local and further afield solicitors.
The cheap ones are all from the net but with good reviews but I do have concerns about a solicitor hundreds of miles away, the expensive ones are all local. So catch 22.
Thanks in advance.
Neil

We have used Conveyancing Direct a number of times and were really impressed with them, and very competitive prices. They are based in St Leonards on Sea but we dealt with them by phone/email etc. Web address is www.conveyancingdirect.net

To pay £1,000 + VAT just for selling sounds ridiculously high to me...selling is far less work because you don't have to do searches etc etc.
Why don't you use a reputable one on the net...doesn't really matter where they are...

Hi
Try Peter Gates in Billingshurst. We used him when we moved to Whitehill and he was excellent and not at all expensive. It did mean one trip to Billingshurt to sign papers but that was all. The rest was simple. His number is 01403 753636.

I am a conveyancer working for MacDonald Oates in Petersfield but I have just finished work until Weds 27th. However, if you would like to ask the Editor to pass on your e-mail address and you let me know your sale price and purchase price, I can give you an idea as to costs and disbursements. Alternatively one of my colleagues in either our Petersfield or Midhurst office would be happy to provide you with the information.
The conveyancing charges certainly do vary a lot, but as with most things, it depends on the type of service you would like. Some of the less expensive conveyancing services on the internet are carried out by non-qualified staff working as part of a "team" so that you don't always speak to the same person (I know because I have to deal with them as well !). Also check the quotes very carefully - some firms add on a lot of hidden extras (high costs for bank telegraphic transfer fees, additional costs if you are obtaining a mortgage, fees for filling out stamp duty forms etc etc.)
I think our firm puts the client first and operates in a friendly and efficient manner. We offer extremely good value for money but I do know that we are not the cheapest. We are local if you do need to call in, but equally I have dealt with conveyancing transactions entirely by e-mail for Clients living abroad.
I hope your move is stress and hassle free!

Hello Neil
As soon as I receive your details from the Editor, I'll be in touch. As an alternative you could e-mail me at work jillwilliams@macdonaldoates.co.uk . You will get an "out of office" message but I can access e-mails from home and can ask my secretary to watch out for your message. For obvious reasons I would rather not give out my personal e-mail address!
