G3 MASTS
- Susannah (16th Mar 2005 - 10:42:11)

Dear All,

This is the first time I have visited this site and I have to say how impressed I am by it, the information provided, and by the support shown to one another in the Liphook community.

Having read backdated postings I have become aware of the growing concerns about the siting and proposed siting of G3 masts in the Liphook area. I myself had not previously been aware that a number of applications have already been submitted over the past year or so concerning other areas of the village and feel that there is a large portion of the Liphook population is completely unaware that this is going on.

I dont know how many of you are aware of this but I have received a letter from EHDC (dated 9th March) informing me that a 150m high, 3 antennae G3 mast application has been submitted to EHDC, the siting of which is to be the Longmoor Road on the edge of the Bircholt Estate (next to A3 slip road southbound). EHDC have said that anyone wishing to object to the erection of this mast has 21 days in which to do so. I would like to object to the mast but would like to object in the most effective way and would appreciate any help or advice on how to go about this.

I would also ask that anyone else who objects to the mast application please make their feelings known to EHDC as well.

I accept that these masts have to be erected but why do they insist on trying to put them in the middle/edge of villages? Could not more suitable locations be found?

Many thanks in advance.

Susannah

I believe that there is also one cited in (or near) the grounds of Bohunt school which is also on the Longmoor road. A petition needs to be raised or individual letters of protest sent to the District Council offices based in Petersfield.

I meant to add this link which is a word doc format for objection, listing some of the facts.

Just wanted to add a generalised point about complaining and lobbying - as we learnt through the No2ID campaign (http://www.no2id.net/), when large numbers of people cite the same material, or even simply commit some form of repetition (i.e. factsheets, debates etc), both local and central government have a cynical tendency to ignore individual feeling and aggregate everyone with that viewpoint together as a single vote.

I was very interested to read about the planning applications for these masts. Is there any way that we can get this information to the people of Liphook as soon as possible? Maybe a petition could be set up quickly so that we can object strongly to these masts being put up in and around Liphook? I do not read the local papers very often, but has this been mentioned in the Liphook Herald? People must be informed that this is happening now - would like to know other peoples' opinions and suggestions.

Update:
I have phoned East Hants District Council Planning department and they said to object we should write a letter to Joanne Riley
Planning Department
East Hants District Council
Penns Place
Petersfield, Hants
GU31 4EX
with the following details of objection to: 21 metre high monopole mast off Longmoor Road, south of slip road on the A3 Planning application no: F39679.
Also, a SEPARATE letter should be sent to object to the
other mast being erected near Bohunt School, Longmoor Road (she said that we need the address of the site).
If anyone has this address, please would they post it on this site.
Hope this helps - I am certainly going to write to then asap.

Its also worth checking out extra info on the East Hants Council website:

Re: G3 MASTS

Or in fact, the exact application itself:

F.39679/000/FUL : 25 METRE HIGH TELECOMMUNICATION LATTICE MAST WITH THREE ANTENNAE, TWO TRANSMISSION DISHES, RADIO EQUIPMENT HOUSING AND ANCILLARY DEVELOPMENT

For anyone who would like more info on these masts, go to:
www.equilibra.uk.com/emfnewinfo.shtml
especially the section 'The Findings of Physicists'

Re: G3 MASTS

Forgot to mention that although I recommend this article, I do not support the info in the rest of the website or Equilibra in general.

Freddie...can you help here?

Re: G3 MASTS

There IS a mobile phone mast in the middle of the village - it is behind the Royal Anchor and is on Bohunt School grounds!! Also, it is right in the middle of residential housing - only a few metres away from some of the houses! These houses are The Firs (behind the Church Centre) and the fairly new housing estate just behind the Anchor (entrance at the top end of the Longmoor Road). I was absolutely amazed to find the mast, as I drive through Liphook everyday and walk there, and have never noticed it before. How did they get permission to put it in Bohunt's sports grounds and also in the middle of a residential area?!! Comments please...

Thats been there for a few years Sooze, I play footy on the astroturf and I reckon it's been there at least 2-3 years maybe longer.

Not 3G, but there is a (relatively) new Tetra mast on BT land behind the old post office on the Portsmouth Road.
This is part of the new police telecommunications system which has higher radiation levels than 3G. Right in the middle of a residential area. Even if harmless its an eyesore! All objections to this mast were ignored.

Re: G3 MASTS
- Chris (24th Mar 2005 - 07:10:18)

Bohunt school must have sold off some land to make ends meet, like many schools that have done exactly the same. It defies belief that, given the slightest uncertainty as to the health risks involved, the authorities would allow siting of one of these masts in the least desirable place from a safety point of view...a school!!
I'm surprised that permission hasn't been sought (and granted) to build a nuclear waste disposal facility in the grounds as well.

Re: G3 MASTS
- Mike Grimes (24th Mar 2005 - 12:11:30)

A School may sound bad as a site for a potentially dangerous mast due to the concentration of children there but, actually, a residential area would be much worse as children spend a much greater proportion of their time there than at school.

Who, apart from the operators who paid an extraordinary sum for the licences, needs G3 anyway?

Re: G3 MASTS
- Sooze (24th Mar 2005 - 13:07:07)

Liz

Is this 'Tetra' mast there AS WELL as the mast that is by Bohunt School - I'm a little confused as to whether this is a different mast or the same? Also, why were the objections ignored - perhaps we should start a campaign and complain loudly for them to take it/or them down?

Re: G3 MASTS
- Alex Cameron (29th Mar 2005 - 13:43:21)

Hopefully Sooze and I will report back with pictures of both masts after a clandestine reconnaissance mission.

I think we might all need to do a little reading up here - personally i am most concerned with the Tetra mast - not only as my family's house is closer to it, but simply due to the knowledge that they tend to run in the 16Ghz range, which also happens to be the same range the brain works within. After seeing god knows how many reports of people sleeping with metal plates around their heads at night (most radio waves can't pass through metal), i'd be interested to know how many people in the village might have suffered because of it.

This is a difficult one, as the Tetra network is an immensely important part of the national infrastructure. It seems to come down to the lack of consideration shown in the placing of these things - surely if we came up with 3-4 alternate locations we might have more success than if petitioning for their complete removal. Clearly the MO used to get these masts up at all costs is highly cynical.

As for 3G, what an incisive question. The answer would appear to be 'almost no-one'. I worked on some of the first 3G applications that came over from NTT in Japan, and even then people were talking about the technology being superseded by upcoming scientific advances (e.g. WiMax, UMTS tweaking etc). Buying the frequency is one thing - maintaining infrastructure is another.

Re: G3 MASTS
- Sooze (4th Apr 2005 - 12:55:05)

Alex - that is a good idea to try to get them moved... anyone have any ideas how we could rally people round to this venture? Will anyone offer to work on this with us? We need to read up on how far these Tetra masts should be placed away from residential housing, schools, etc.

Replies to this would be very helpful.

Re: G3 MASTS
- Alex Cameron (6th Apr 2005 - 21:09:42)

Well Sooze - i'll grab my raincoat, balaclava and handycam and we can sneak round the grounds to get a few snaps.

Re: G3 MASTS
- Sooze (7th Apr 2005 - 12:09:00)

Good idea Alex and I will hold you to that!!
Anyone else out there in Liphook interested in doing something about this problem??

Re: G3 MASTS
- Chris (7th Apr 2005 - 14:06:09)

As Susannah wrote at the beginning we should follow the grievance procedure with the DC first as defined in their letter to residents. The more we write the more they will recognise our protest. If further action is needed because the council did not listen then perhaps we should follow that up with further postings. They will only react if we do and if we don't then they will assume that we don't mind. So let's get writing.

Re: G3 MASTS
- Sooze (7th Apr 2005 - 16:14:39)

Thanks Chris for replying. I agree totally and I wrote myself a couple of weeks ago and got a bland reply from EHDC!! How do we get people to sit up and take notice out there?? Is it apathy or what?! Anyway, as Chris advises, please write to East Hants District Council - all the details are above and you can see the planning application on line. We only have been given 21 days to object and I think that has probably passed by now, but let's keep on going with this.
