Street lights turned off
- RA (10th Apr 2019 - 19:55:44)

How long have the street lights down Tower Road and Tunbridge Crescent been turned off at one o'clock in the morning, and is this happening in every road in the village not on one of the main roads?

This is happening throughout the village as far as I know.
There was an article in the local papers saying lights would be switched off between 1.00-4.00am to save money !!!
Not sure if it will be permanent, or if they receive lots of complaints they will rethink it.

It save electricity and wasting tax payer’s money. If you are not sleeping at 1am like the majority, buy a torch. 🔦

It gives the chance for the men in vans to drive up and down at three in the morning shining torches at peoples houses.

As has been spotted in The Maltings, Manor Fields and Malthouse Meadows.

Then that gives people the opportunity to moan about the lack of police.

Vicious cycle. Blame the Tories.

To be fair, it's what many of us are used to if you live even slightly out of Liphook in more rural areas. We don't have street lights and enjoy the dark skies and have never known any different.

I do understand though that it must be worrying for anyone walking to or from work at nightime who isn't used to/prepared for it suddenly.

I think there will be less crime with the lights off as we will be able to notice prowlers about more now as they will have to use torches to see. Street lights just gave them all the light they needed to poke their noses round.
I think this is a win all round I always hated staying in properties where lights shone in your bedroom.

@ Sandy

Thank you for the verification.

@ Sarah.

That's exactly what happened to me. I was walking home when the lights went out all of a sudden. At first I thought there had been a power cut, but then I noticed that people's houses still had power.

It was a bit tricky walking home in the dark though. I had to walk in the road one night last week, due to the fact that it was so dark I could hardly see the path. Definitely will need a torch after 1am in future.

At least I know for next time.
