New donation of memorabilia in the Heritage Centre
- Val Gaskin (3rd Apr 2019 - 18:39:26)

Another event for you while you!re out and about in Liphook...the Heritage Centre have just been donated a number of really interesting hand-drawn cartoon letters and cards written by John Harris to his wife, Eleanor and other members of his family during world war 2 and donated by Peter Harris. Why not come in and see them on Saturday, we are upstairs in the Millennium Centre. The drawings and letters will stay on display for the foreseeable future.

If the opening hours were longer or more flexible we would have visited long ago. Perhaps opening hours friendlier to the working people in the community?

We would love to open more but we only have enough volunteers to cover 3 sessions a week and one Saturday morning a month. We are doing our best with what we have. When would you like us to be open?

Good morning Val,
I totally understand your constraints.
I can't speak for everyone, but perhaps more evening and non-morning weekends? Might you find opening by appointment more convenient?

Or maybe Bush you could volunteer to help as you have an interest? So many people on this site have a whinge about events and initiatives that are organised and run by good folk who give up their free time for the benefit of the village community. Bush, your initial post is typical of the prevailing me me attitude that seems to have taken over this country

Thank you for your comments. I will bring up this topic for discussion at our next meeting. Rest assured that if we are able to extend our hours, talkback readers will be amongst the first to know. Meanwhile on a Saturday , one morning a month from 10am to 1 pm is all we can offer.

We already accommodate group visits by appointment. If you would like to arrange a group visit please let us know.
You will find our email address on our website.

The Heritage Centre, located on the first floor of the Millennium Centre, will be open on Saturday at the same time as the Liphook Village Market.
This will enable those members of the community unable to visit during the week days an opportunity to view our historical exhibits and records.

Gosh Rachael, that was a bit harsh.

Clearly Bush works and may have no spare time to enable volunteering. The comments Bush made were valid points and there was polite, constructive dialogue between Bush and the Heritage Centre.

I am also a worker who is unable to visit the Heritage Centre at the times it opens. Nor do I have any free time to commit to volunteering, though I would love to do so and appreciate the work the volunteers do.

I believe there have been occasional evening openings when I have been able to go along.and take parents with me, so hopefully the Heritage Centre will be able to organise some in the future if they know there is sufficient interest.
