Estate Agents
- Anon (25th Mar 2019 - 11:39:09)

We're about to put our house on the market and wondered if anyone had any opinions / thoughts on the local estate agents.

We've pondered online vs traditional - obviously services like Purple Bricks are a lot cheaper but there's the worry they'll lose interest once you pay up front.

We've met with a couple of other local agents who seem to offer similar service, have offered valuations in the same ballpark but still want their 1% (or more).

Be interested in any experience people have had - thanks for your help

I bought from Kelway Law last year, and they were very good for me.

Good advice and good progress updates

when we bought ours we had only good things to say about hamptons in the village, good agents, honest

we had a couple dealings with keats that we're not so good

The real question is why Estate Agent selling fees are still so very high. Yes they get your property advertised online on sites like Rightmove. But a seller has no choice because 7private individuals are not allowed to do it directly themselves. In reality the most important work in a sale is done by the solicitors. So why is the solicitor’s bill usually much lower than the Estate Agent’s bill? Estates agents do have their place just like any sales people. But for what is basically a low skill admin role surely they are not good value for money in today world. Now watch the fat cats pipe up.

Do you know how much it costs for an Agent to advertise your property on sites like Right move???

🙄

Have found Hamptons quite lazy - always wanting to list at a lower price in order to sell without effort but we have sold at a higher price than they have advised as have family.

Always negotiate on commission and look at who has bigger profile online - rightmove/primelocation, their own website profile on google search etc

Can't imagine there's many sales through window shopping anymore.

I sold my house through Clarke Gammon Wellers last year and thought they were great - very knowledgeable.

I just sold my house through Ewemove, yes like the sheep, and I was impressed with how quickly it sold and at a price I was very happy with. Lower rates than the high street agents and Matthew Evans did all of the viewings himself.

I couldn’t recommend them highly enough. One of my neighbours was on with Purple Bricks barely had any viewings and never sold in the end.

As a local conveyancer I get to deal with Estate Agents from the other side of the transaction, I have had dealings locally with both Hamptons and Homes and have found them proactive and helpful when trying to progress a matter.
