Alternatives To James Arbuthnot - Alex Cameron (10th Mar 2005 - 09:24:35) As we were discussing the overthrow of our incumbent MP, James Arbuthnot, in another thread, here are the prospective choices for May from politics.co.uk: Current details Constituency: North East Hampshire 2001-2005 MP: Arbuthnot, James Current Party: Conservative 2001 Majority: 13,257 Conservative 2001 Turnout: 61.62% 2001 Election Results Party % of Votes ------------------------------------------- Conservative 53.20 Labour 19.90 Liberal Democrat 23.00 Prospective 2005 Parliamentary Candidates Arbuthnot, James (Conservative) http://www.conservatives.com/tile.do?def=people.person.page&personID=4744 Carew, Adam (Liberal Democrats) http://www.libdems.org.uk/party/people/person.html?id=913 McGrath, Kevin (Labour Party) http://www.mcgrath4labour.co.uk/ So there appears to be one problem, which applies to all constituencies. That problem is that people vote for parties, rather than MPs. Even if Arbuthnot is a bot crap, the majority in this area count themselves a 'true blue' and probably didn't even look at the candidates.
