Patient Access - Swan Medical
- Alan (28th Feb 2019 - 09:44:13)
Hi
Just a quick survey, have you managed to use the online 'Patient Access' system to contact Swan Medical - Liphook Village Surgery lately ?
I had registered, and was able to use, before Swan Medical took over, now my details are not valid and when checking 'Patient Access' to register again (why?) I get the message "Sorry, your practice does not currently support Patient Access."
But the practice website www.liphookvillagesurgery.co.uk has links on it to 'Patient Access'.
Is it just me or are their systems broken or just not updated ?
More worrying is that if you fill out their contact us form it actually goes to their web designer who then forwards it to them ! I tend to think this probably breaks any GDPR legislation.

•If you have an account book a telephone consultation with your GP via ‘Patient Access Online’ (if you need to be seen the GP will arrange a suitable appointment with you)
•Write to your GP at our usual address
•Alternatively you can complete the “Contact our Doctors online” section on the homepage of our website and the Doctor will send you a reply.

I had the same thing, if you ring the surgery and speak to them about it they will re-register you and give a new access code to key in.
It was all very painless, if a little frustrating initially as the patient access website does not recognise Liphook - I think it was something to do with the practice being registered as Petersfied from memory. I have had no issues since I re-registered.

I don't use the service that often but I too experienced problems during the transition from one service to the next. I'm afraid it can only be sorted with a phone call to the helpful surgery staff who will quickly re-establish your access.
The new service allows access to your medical records which, as an example, is hugely helpful in arranging travel insurance. Failure to declare pre existing conditions invalidates your claim. Well worth a look when you are trying to obtain insurance.
As an overall comment, NHS IT systems are light years behind the commercial sector but they are gradually catching up. General Practice is usually ahead of the game as they mainly operate as independent contractors to the NHS. A legacy of the NHS birth of many many years ago. I'm impressed with Swan. When you need to see a GP you can (or be phoned up) and routine stuff can be dealt with by the support staff. It's a much better utilisation of resources and more importantly will deliver better outcomes, as it allows GPs more time to use their expertise on those who require it.
