Presumably its a cost saving!
That being said the free market economy is a very harsh system in the austerity driven world we are in and as tax payers, we demand value for money regardless of the human cost.

why is it insulting to employ a manager? Unless you are self employed or own your own business most people are managed by somebody?

john in reply to you reply they are managed by a head groundsman who i believe has been so for 20 odd years i know this team well they work very hard together to maintain radford rec and many more areas i also know they have won awards on the football pitch more than once i do think it is a insult to them as well why do they want to spend our money on a grounds managers when these boys as far as im cocered have done a fine job for 20 or more years put yourself in ther position how they must feel

As a former Chairman of the recreation ground committee which overseas the Recreation Ground and Radford park. The management was done by the Parish Clerk, the Head groundsman and the Chairman,
The Parish also maintained all the verges and open spaces on behalf of the District. this worked very well for many years, and the work load is probably less these days than then.
Perhaps if the Council spent less time fighting among themselves, more time looking after the parish there would no need for a "Grounds Manager"

I assume the current staff will be invited to apply for the new role? It could mean a promotion for one of the current staff?
