Bonfire obsessives
- Stevie Mac (24th Feb 2019 - 19:45:36)

The first sunny weekend of the year and some fellow Liphook residents can’t resist the urge to gather up all their garden waste and whatever else may happen to be laying around before setting fire to it. While this romanticised view of country living may appeal to some, central Liphook is well and truly an urban area. Bonfires are un-neighbourly, unnecessary and aborent.

Cavemen and women of Liphook - particularly those living near the train station causing an unholy stench - leave the pyrotechnics to bonfire night.

In summary, bonfires create pollution and should be banned in urban areas. And yes, these complaints will be going to the council.

I have no issue with people lighting the odd bonfire at the end of their gardens, but at the moment there seems to be an increase in 'fires' around Liphook.

My issue is that the fires often smell of anything other than leaves - tonight (25 Feb) there is smoke south of Bohunt that reeks of burning plastic. That's unlikely to be bog-standard garden waste.

There often seems to be a bonfire / rubbish burning near the train station but I've never figured out exactly where. Again, it can smell pretty bad and is not typical garden material being burned.

I have particular issue with fires early in he AM (e.g. before 0600) and late at night because I believe that's more likely to be somebody burning something they shouldn't under the cover of darkness.

So who's lighting these fires?

Get a grip Stevie, it's only a bonfire.
Also this is Liphook, a village not and urban conurbation, perhaps you would be better off in a large town, not many bonfires in London!
