Roadworks- The Avenue- school & resident access
- MikeT (23rd Jan 2019 - 19:44:09)

We've today had delivered a Hampshire Highways letter telling us that the full length of The Avenue in Liphook is due to be re-surfaced.

Although subject to weather, the letter says they will be undertaking 'pre-civils' (whatever that means) starting 28th Jan for 5 days. They will then be re-surfacing, starting on 18th Feb for 2 days- at least that bit is planned to be during half term!! During re-surfacing they are asking for no on-road parking.

The road will apparently be closed to vehicles between around 9.30am to 4pm and they're not guaranteeing vehicle access for residents during those times. The letter isn't clear whether this is for all of the works or just the re-surfacing days. I will try to find out what they mean and what their definition of 'pre-civils' is.

Be aware, Liphookians that there will be some disruption while this work is carried out

I had previously been told after reporting drainage and pothole problems that this work would be done last summer holidays.

So Mike T, any news? Did you find out any more details please?

I found out more info from the foreman of the 'pre-civils' gang and also got a callback from the Highways Dept.

The pre-civils work starting on 28th Jan (tomorrow) involves only replacement of isolated kerbs and will be done with localised traffic obstructions- ie no road closures- and should be outside school pick up and drop off times.

The half term work starting 18th Feb will involve planing off the existing top surface and laying new surfacing. This bit will involve road closure but it's not certain whether the whole road will be closed. Replacing the yellow/ white lines will follow.

Thank you for that. The letter they sent was really unclear, wasn't it?!
