Cows at Linchmere Common
- Ellen (7th Jan 2019 - 16:52:42)

The cows are being spooked very easily at the moment. Please Avoid walking near them especially with dogs..

Have just seen a news report of an elderly walker trampled by the cattle. I walk here every day and the galloways are very peaceful. This must have been due to calves. I hope they will not be forced to put them elsewhere. Hope she will be okay.

There's no calves out there

I think there's at least one in this bunch that I wouldn't trust. It's often roaring. They should go if there's any doubt to safety

Just seen some photos taken on the same day and you can see the calves in the field. They have been taken away since.

My understanding is a dog bit one of the calves and the bite marks are visible on the calve's nose.

Yes, a calve was bitten and this is not the first time, the bull had his " bits " bitten a while back. If your dog is prone to chasing they should be on the lead as you pass them. I passed them about three days ago with my dogs, on leads and they were fine.
So tragic for the lady but they will be missed on the common if they can't come back.
Chapel common also have cattle roaming at times too.
