CCTV In Liphook
- Dee McGrath (15th Mar 2011 - 12:58:17)

Has anyone else notice the CCTV cameras one outside the hairdressers Haslemere Road, and one out side Carla in the square.

I have not noticed - I would think that they would need planning permission especially in the conservation area of the square. Is this something that the police also should notify us of?

If that is what they are, maybe they are in the wrong place, did they detect anyone pulling up the bulbs and throwing them in the road last night. Very sad all that hard work.

I thought they were to do with the people traffic monitoring.

I'd like to see CCTV cameras on each lampost AND each linked to a blow-pipe! (Only containing strong tranquiliser, not poison of course)

That would give the daffodil destroyers a nice surprise and give the police time to get out of bed/pub and come nick the vandals.

Why would the police need to inform residents of CCTV cameras??? If they are "town centre monitoring" cameras they will have been installed by the local authority. It they are blue traffic measuring cameras they will have been installed by the highway authority. It they are attached to private property, permission is dictated by local authority depentent on building and camera type.

The installation of CCTV benefits from some permitted development rights under Part 33 of the General Permitted Development Order. I haven't looked at it in a few years so there may be some restrictions for Article 1(5) land which includes conservation areas.
