Power cut
- C (29th Nov 2018 - 09:49:41)

We have a powercut in Longmoor area, estimated time to restore is reportedly 1.00pm. Anyone else have no power?

It came back on between 10 and 10.30am

Once again, SSE who manage our local network, lose power to this end of Liphook. We have lived here for many years and every year we have several power cuts. Some last a few seconds and others last several hours. We had 6 months on generators some years ago when the bare overhead cables were replaced with sheathed cable. That will solve all our problems we were told. Unfortunately the trees in the area had other ideas and just kept growing, regularly throwing themselves across the lines. In response, a tree cutting programme was undertaken. In spite of all this, we continue to have power cuts. Indeed the network has expanded with new cables to Old Thorns and new developments and yes, another power cut to accommodate it. Every so often the ancient transformers blow up or pack up. I heavily suspect the infrastructure is a legacy of the CEGB (Google them if you can't remember our old national grid guardians). If so, it is ancient and essential parts should be replaced, before failure not after. Either way, our network needs a lot more stability. I know people in the developing world who have a more reliable supply than parts of Liphook.
