money and jobs for the boys
- tstevens (6th Mar 2011 - 16:44:43)
Not only have we had to endure and pay for so called " damages " of £ 23 k, now we are expected the accept that the parish council is now employing an old crony of the clerks, WITHOUT ADVERTISING THE POSITION.
This is the same crony that pretended to leave her post, 2 years ago with the Parish Council, based on a false accusation of bullying upon her .
So why is she returning to work whilst Cllr Croucher is still there, if she really had been bullied?
Why on earth are we going to employ this crony, when there are so many good qualified people looking for work, such as this particular post? WHY HAS THE PARISH COUNCIL REALLY NOT ADVERTISED THE POSITION?!

Well....if what you say is really true, it's quite disgraceful and you should immediately inform Eric Pickles!!!
I had an e-mail from him only last week saying "Transparency and openness must underpin every decision your Council makes for you"...and this sounds quite the opposite.
And I'm not being TIC here but quite serious...this business with the Parish Clerk needs to be sorted out ASAP it's being going on for far too long....

Re: money and jobs for the boys
- helen (7th Mar 2011 - 01:07:54)
As you say jobs for the boys. This lady resigned her job 2 years ago after citing stress caused by a long standing councillor. If the same councillor is still there why should she want to return, if the job was so bad and her position so untenable? very misleading. This was voted on by the Finance and policy committee, I think two votes against one. Hardly counts as something which has the backing of full council. Also, when Mrs Hart resigned, and the job was properly advertised, why did she not reapply then? Probably because there would have been too much competition, and not a shoe-in. It is laughable the talk of saving the council money after the payout to the clerk, that is nonsense.

- graeme (7th Mar 2011 - 09:39:42)
I left Liphook some years ago but look at the website every now and again and its good to see that nothing changes, same 4 people moaning about any subject that appears in the paper that could be turned into a negetive thread slagging the PC off.
You could have mentioned saving The Peak Centre with a grant, but oh no you try and cause problems by high lighting a stand in position for the Deputy Clerk which is perfectly explained in the article with valid points!
With the Elections on their way it should be a good time for all of you to stand,if you have the commitment to give up hours and hours of your spare time for free (remember correct names only on appication forms ) and run the risk of being slagged off on a community web site trying to help the parish of Bramshott and Liphook by cyber bullies.
Finally if anybody thinking of moving to Liphook when the tunnel opens reads this site like me they would probably choose another village.Hope you are proud of yourselves. Graeme

well put graeme, I have lived in Liphook for 36 years and I for one have had enough, I agree if I read this forum I for one would not move to the area, there is so many good things going for Liphook and the PC but it is always the negatives people talk about. If people are not keen on how it is run then stand up for election and let us know what things you would change and how.
But on the plus side I guess its good reading a little like the Sunday Sport but without the Pics, Alan we need pictures :-)

Graeme and Neil,
People have every right to question the decisions their Councils make on their behalf...it's called Democracy!!
I would have thought anyone moving to Liphook would be encouraged it's alive and well here, rather than be put off....

Eneida,
Since when has slagging off the PC continually, been called democracy,to me it just seems vindictive and uncalled for, and I stand by what I posted most people reading these posts would not bother with Lipook for fear of meeting and upsetting the little gang that post on this site and as for democratic I read the above posts and it seems to me 2 votes for and 1 against a motion, is indeed democracy at its best Good luck in the election you seem to have time on your hands I take it you will be standing.

Graeme, As you say you left Liphook some years ago - it would seem probable that you are completely out of touch with Parish Council business. Might I suggest that before you post on here you attend a Parish Council meeting to make a valid judgement.

The thread called " Mubarak Regime or Liphook Parish Council. Whats the difference?" seems to hit a cord with what appears to be happening here .
It all seems a bit self serving, especially if it is true that Cllr Anna James is actually the clerks cousin as mentioned in the Mubarak thread.
Can someone confirm this please?

Marian,
Actually, I was at a recent PC meeting along with quite a few old friends, and I have to say that the way you have appeared on this site agressive and rude and questioning my knowledge of what goes on in my old village is exactly my point.why have you? why is the tone of your post condersending?I can pick up whats going on in the village via the PC minutes and regularly do. I say again anybody reading this site would have a low opion of life in Liphook let alone move here.
Sorry but its true

Greame - I think you have noticed that there is always more than one way of interpreting something that appears in print. I don't think that those you disagree with should be written off (by yourself, I may add) as holding invalid or condesending views.
There are many decent people who contribute to this site, with some good campaign work (witness the support for the Nationwide Building Society and Dr Judge) and voicing concerns over the conduct of the Parish Council are valid here as much as posts about anything else that goes on in the village.

Graeme
I too have left the village, regularly read Liphook.co. and attended the PC meeting on Monday. Having read this thread the only aggressive posts appear to be from yourself - Enieda and Marian are surely entitled to question the actions of the PC in a civil and constructive tone, particularly as they actually live in the village - thus it is their taxes that pay for the actions of PC.

- Jane G (7th Mar 2011 - 20:12:08)
I hope that this thread does not go the way of other threads on Talkback about the parish council. Clearly, there are issues going on that need resolution but as Graeme says this site should not really be used for slagging off individuals.
I would love to hear the facts of the parish council situations that have been all over here and the local press lately, but I really do not want to read gossip and slander, which us 'normal' folk do not know is fact or fiction - all I know is it makes Liphook look pretty awful to an outsider!
Liphook is a great place to live and there are so many good people living here doing so many good things - I also vote for hearing more about that!
How about we start a thread for everyone to post 3 positive things they can say about Liphook? I can start by saying great schools, beautiful countryside and the wonderful friends I have made through the Liphook book club....there that's a start.....anyone else?

I am inclined to agree with most of Graham's sentiments and would observe that it should be possible to disagree with others opinions and decisions without resorting to unproven insinuations about their motivations.
I have lived in Liphook for 22 years and (perhaps fortunately) do not really know anyone on the Parish Council or indeed of the individuals who regularly resort to mud throwing on this forum but I don't believe that this type of approach brings any credit to them and certainly not to the village.

Re: money and jobs for the boys
- helen (8th Mar 2011 - 00:16:48)
Graeme has been on the previous threads defending the awful goings on at the parish Council. Someone questioned whether he was actually a Councillor using another name, I think possibly Peter Wilson? A councillor, allowed to remain a councillor although he is actually living elsewhere. The Parish Council holds our money and should use it on our behalf not to behave in ways which suit themselves best.
It is only right that grants are given to community groups, not a pat on the back time, just what should be happening. Extra payouts to staff are not normal in Parish Council situations, it is our money, and they are accountable to us for every penny.
We have every right to question and criticise what goes on and why. We are not yet living in a police state where one dare not question what goes on in public office.

Graeme - I think you are approaching this with eyes wide shut - or perhaps just protecting old friends or memories which is understandable. Although some posts about the PC got completely out of hand, I agree, there is some criticism which people are justified in making. As for the impression we are giving of Liphook - why are we worried about keeping people away? Sounds like a good thing to me!! Development in Liphook has gone mad just recently. OK, just showing my age I suppose.
P.S. I am not in anybody's 'gang' or a cyber-whatever-it -was.

3 things....only 3
let's go with
1. An excellent community spirit. People in Liphook have been welcoming and do care about their village. They don't wait for the government to start something up but are more than willing to create events and organisations without state input - Liphook in Bloom, Farmer's Market, The Carnival,
2. Fantastic range of activities for young children - some run by Sure Start, some by private companies, churches, etc. You can be busy nearly every day in Liphook with your little ones (I have friends who live in bigger towns nearby who bring their kids to Liphook to participate)
3. It is a beautiful part of the Hampshire countryside.
This is a great forum for all sorts of issues - but I think Liphook is a fantastic place to live and I feel very blessed to be living here.

Three more positive things about Liphook:
1. LIPHOOK & RIPSLEY CRICKET CLUB
2. LIPHOOK TENNIS CLUB
3. LIPHOOK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB
What do they all have in common apart from being sports clubs? They all welcome youth and adult members to join in and be part of a great community.

Is anyone else experiencing a warm fuzzy feeling when they read this thread now? :o)
Perhaps the editor could move all these examples of the good things into a new thread called 'all the things we love about Liphook?'
