Waxwings
- chris (2nd Mar 2011 - 14:27:30)

Over the last 2 days I have seen a group of about a dozen very exotic looking birds around Liphook. They are always in a group. Having done some research on the RSPB web site I believe they are Waxwings. They apparently are usually seen on the East coast of Britain and only in the winter and some winters they do not visit the UK at all.

Last see sitting on the elecricity cables in the Haslemere Road!

The last few mornings at about 6.30 I have seen a flock of birds fly across Liphook from the south towards the Haslemere Rd where they sit in a large tree. I thought they were starlings but they seemed a bit too tuneful (it's a bit too dark to see colours as the morning light is behind them) - and a bit rounder in the body. I notice the RSPB website does have them down as 'similar birds' despite different colours. I'll have to look more closely!

They are waxwings, I saw them in Malthouse Meadows around about Christmas time !

I have seen them up in Grayshott in the Churchyard, nice to see something unusual - very eyecatching birds.
