Lady Taxi Driver In Liphook
- Peter Shepherd (6th Oct 2018 12:24:05)
I’m delighted to announce we now have a Lady Driver in Liphook.
Ana-Karin Horn has now joined the team at Maple Cars, along with her Husband Mark, and are looking forward to be of service to the people in and around Liphook

Why do we need to know the sex of the driver? What difference does it make to us what genitalia they hide beneath their clothes?
Unless of course we are sexist fascists...
By the way, what is her skin colour and religion? just out of passing interest;

Hello Lips
In a male dominated profession some women prefer to have a same sex driver, I know this first hand as I’ve specific requests for a female driver on occasion.

Well, how very ignorant you are lips. Some ladies, especially the frail, or elderly, living alone very often, would feel safer with a lady driver. Do think before you open your impulsive mouth

LIps
That was a negative remark !!
Some people especially the ladies and females of Liphook would probably prefer to be driven by a female driver.
Peter was only pointing out he has a female driver so there is a choice there for his customers.
Well done Peter!!!
Lips don't have such a pathetic attitude for people wanting a choice.

Could not agree more with all the previous posts. What a horrible post posted by Lips and so uncalled for. Lips by name and Lippy by nature methinks. Good for your Mr Shepherd for posting what you did.

Agree with Lips - why does there need to be an announcement of a female member of staff?
"But elderly females prefer to have a female driver!"... why? because all male taxi drivers are old lady bashers? I'd take offence if I was a male taxi driver.
Ha - Still makes me laugh, the title - "Lady Taxi Driver in Liphook"...
"I'm a lady!"

Dave, I think Lips is an 'it' as posts very ambiguous on gender

- Peter Shepherd (8th Oct 2018 15:48:39)
I’ve been a Taxi Driver 30 years now, and I’m certainly not bothered if someone requests a lady driver over me!.
I just try to give the public a choice, if we didn’t have a Lady Driver we don’t have an option but whilst we do and the paying customer would like one thats what we will send!

Re: Lady Taxi Driver In Liphook

To Go lips - What a stupid analogy to make ie "because all male taxi drivers are old lady bashers?" That is inferring that all women who prefer to see a male doctor implies that all male doctors are gropers". Also why say "old" - there may be "young" ladies who prefer a female driver. You criticise Mr Shepherd for daring to using the adjective "female" - shock - horror, but you a blatantly use the word "old". What is wrong with people today? All Mr Shepherd was saying that he now employs an excellent lady driver, wife of one his employees. He is only stating a fact. What is there about that to give offence. PC gone mad!

Re: Lady Taxi Driver In Liphook
- Lips (8th Oct 2018 17:29:39)
Dear Angry Mob,
Try to play fair, just for a laugh.
Should my husband insist he'd only pay a male taxi driver because he doesn't feel safe/comfortable being driven by a female taxi driver, your PC warriors would have him accused as a sexist chauvinist, offensive and unfair. It is the same attitude when others chose their taxi driver because of her female classification.
I'd like to think my driver is chosen for other skills (safety, comfort, professionalism, cost, decency, honesty, reliability, experience, vehicle handling etc.) other than sex. I hope I am not in the minority who are most uncomfortable knowing that positions are allocated according to identity politics as oppose to proven skills or other relevant merits. Sex is not a relevant merit for a taxi driver. It would be for a sex-worker or for parenting plans.
If I insisted on a taxi driver who was just like me a woman and just like me not as young as I used to be and just like me not driving much more then I would not be getting very far, would I? My point is, I accept a taxi driver who is different as long as the service is good. Learn to live with harmless and useful different people or else you won't get very far. If they are harmful or wasted space, then yes, by all means keep away from them.
+-
It is those 'some of us', 'some ladies' that are highly selective that should overcome their own hypersensitivities. This is without expecting the rest of the world around them to change in order to suit them.
Selecting according to sex (unless sex is relevant) is discriminative, it's bigotry and a sure source for problems down the line.
There are many workplaces dominated by females, I don't see males being thrust into those roles as a way of "correcting" the balance.
Peter Shepherd: Those 'some women' are sexists. You cater to their 'specific requests' discriminative then perhaps you should also cater to 'some' who request non-black or non-gay drivers too? In the name of sexual equality you should be telling them they are bigots and that it's not on.
wendy: aggressive words you've chosen, and apparently you know me and that I am ignorant. You have assumed the role of the protector (patron) of the frail, elderly, and loners - most sanctimonious, patronising. Let me assure you that most people "survive" male taxi drivers NOT through being physically powerful, nor youthful, nor by being socially popular; you make male taxi drivers sound like predatory monsters, shame on you!
Oh and allow me to also reassure you my impulsive mouth was not opened during the typing of the message.
Helen: choice and preference are fine, as long as they are fair and relevant. Selecting against a male taxi driver because of his sex is neither of the two. Unless of course you could prove me wrong, and demonstrate how female taxi drivers are better taxi drivers than males and that certain other whimsical choices/preferences criteria (say skin colour or religion) are legitimate choices for a taxi passenger to make?
dave: Don't like my posts? - don't read them. I am jealous of you having time on your hand to scan messages back in deep time or have nothing better to do? If this is not my business then it must be all your business, are you the the Liphook Lady taxi driver named dave?
Penny: The uncalled for message was the bigot sexist announcement of a taxi driver chosen according to their tackle.
Rolli: As the subject now is my own gender - your guess is far closer to the truth than that of small D dave.

I can speak from bitter personal experience, having been assaulted in a mini cab by a male driver. I can assure you, late at night living in a rural area no one hears your calls for help. Good to have a choice.

Lips is clearly not very understanding of the real world and lacks empathy for others..and for that I feel sorry for him/her. Some women (of various ages and for various reasons- and none of them sexist) would prefer to have a woman taxi driver and Peter was merely advising that this is now an option.
I personally think Lips just enjoys stirring. If he/she doesn't think gender is important then quite honestly he/she doesn't have to get so uptight about the fact that there is now a woman taxi driver available for those people who may feel safer travelling on their own with another female.

In reply to Lips's latest post - what a load of ill-informed, badly thought out rubbish. I agree with the poster "dave" who said that Lips never has anything positive to say about anything - quite sad really as most of the time his/her remarks are not even constructive.
With regard to some women preferring a woman taxi driver particularly late at night this is understandable. John Worboys the black cab racist springs to mind. Having said that I am sure 99% of male cab drivers are absolutely fine but in a free country it is only right that women in this instance get the choice now provided for by Peter Shepherd's taxi firm.
In conclusion I find it extraordinary that this Thread which started with a really positive post has degenerated and I think the blame for this must be laid fairly and squarely at Lips's door.

Lips and Go Lips
You're both very behind the times, and there's nothing "PC" about advertising that they have a female driver upon request. Lips' response shows that at best they could start an argument in an empty phone box. At worse, outdated and ill-informed. You've been pulled up for such a crass and dense comment and you don't like that, so you refer to the responders as "The Angry Mob".

Nice work Pete. Congratulations Ana-Karin.
Woah, that escalated quickly ! Delighted to join a new group today, the “Angry Mob”. Who should we target next with congratulations and common sense ?
Looks like your target customer base has gone down from 10,000 to 9,998. I’m sure you’ll lose loads of sleep over that !
Top tip Pete: I note Shielas Wheels are still doing well in the car insurance market, targetting ladies (can I use that term) and have even expanded to house insurance (cars I get as females must be less risk than males - house insurance I don’t get “hey Mr burglar / hurricane don’t target that house, it’s insured by a lady” !)
Have a great weekend, Finchie

I think it's great having a lady taxi driver not so much for me but if my daughter needed a taxi I would feel much more comfortable booking her a female driver and I'm sure she would too. That isn't sexist just real life.
