Mini roundabouts
- Marion (21st Sep 2018 - 07:44:05)

We need the US system to stop the delays the 3 roundabouts cause. At junctions turns are taken to filter into traffic creating an even flow on each entry. No long stopped queues while waiting in the roads for traffic from the right which gets priority.
This would stop the frustration while getting through the bottleneck to get to the final exit required. It takes 25 minutes or more to get from one side of Liphook to the other at peak times due to our priority on right. There must be a better way - emergency vehicles have no chance to get through when all parts of the route are at a near standstill.
Any better ideas to sort this mess ?

Jersey also has ‘filter in turn’

Put traffic lights in so people get their turn instead of blocking up the roundabout especially the one at the top of Longmoor Road, Headley Road and London Road!

I agree. Traffic lights would be better than roundabouts at peak times - and the zebra crossing in the Square needs to be removed.

If people just went 'round' the roundabouts instead of 'through' them then cars would be able to filter on and off seamlessly. Clues in the name guys.

Roundabouts, have you been to spain?? who know what's going on there but they look so nice artwork and things like that, or things that have something to do with the town..

The roundabouts can't be improved you need to avoid them so a ring road system is needed and it already partially in place. From headley road you can go down the avenue for longmoor road and tower road for portsmouth road. So we need a road past the library to connect portsmouth road to haslemere road. With this most journey through liphook avoid the roundabouts.

Traffic light won't work

Its the Zebra crossing thats the main problem at school times. Slows everything up its always a stream of one child every 5 seconds. Either hold them with a set of crossing traffic lights or build a small foot bridge.

What ever happened to the village centre masterplan where the centre was going to made much more pedestrian friendly? All gone very quiet.

I suspect that those drivers who purposely block the roundabouts during peak times are a lot to blame. Don't enter and 'park' on the roundabout if you can't clear it completely. That way others can still filter around.

And use indicators (that includes you, BMW drivers :))

there was too much opposition to pedestrianising the square as people
were afraid of losing the conservation area look. Also would need someone to pay for the alternative route?

Aj, Why won’t traffic lights work? After all the village does have an electrical supply available.

Roundabouts work fine as long as everyone follows the simple rules:
1: Give way to traffic ON THE ROUNDABOUT coming from your right (NOT traffic waiting to enter the roundabout from on your right, there's a very important difference).
2: Signal your intention, left if your turning left, right if your turning right, so that other traffic has the opportunity to use the roundabout at the same time.
3: Go around the roundabout, not over. The only vehicle to straddle the mini roundabouts are large vehicles that are unable to go around it.
If everyone showed a little respect and consideration to others then the traffic might flow a bit better.
I do agree that the zebra crossing does cause some of the hold ups at peak times but are we saying that we don't want a safe place for our children to cross the road? Because without it there will end up being even more traffic at school times.
