Birds
- David Lambert (19th Sep 2018 - 19:28:45)

Does anyone know what all the birds were flying over Liphook this evening ?????

They have been flying over Gunn’s Farm for the last couple of weeks. They are either swallows or swifts feeding off the wing. They must be getting ready to migrate.

Hi Dave,
They are Swifts and Swallows getting ready to fly south, they have been around for the past week.
Glad.

Their is a massive squad of black coloured birds, not swallows that roost in the very tall trees on London road and over on Haslemere road every evening, they have been doing this for weeks if not months, not sure of these are the same as you have seen,

I had assumed given they have been around every night they were locals :)

I noticed large number of birds gathering on the roof tops of the houses in Newtown Road on Wednesday about 5pm. I thought they were starlings collecting together before going to their roosting place.

Wow what a beautiful site,we have been looking at them over Gunns farm for the last I think two weeks, never seen it before !!! . Don’t know how may be to late , BBC autumn watch. We have been trying to take photos not sure how good they are.just sitting looking at them now and they are flying at roof top height . Is it a sign of a bad winter to come.?

Also yesterday evening we had a buzzard flying around with them looking for a quick snack.

I think the mild weather we are having is putting them off migrating - they are usually gone by now.

They have been here for 2-3 weeks now. I love watching them. I tried to film them, but they are just too fast. I saw them chasing the buzzard at the weekend. I hope they stay a bit longer.

Nature's far more attuned to the elements than us. I bet these birds have come from the west part of the country to avoid the worst of this storm
